yeah, i am just so brilliant with my humor that no one could tell i guess. and what's funny is, besides the thing moxie mentioned (losing image quality mainly), in my mind, it doesn't matter whether you do stuff in camera or in post, it's the result that counts.

eye/duke- yeah, that's a cool effect... i took a picture of the stars out at the grand canyon with a bulb exposure (i think around 20 seconds), and at some point my bro took a picture with his flash.... here's the result (notice the tree in the top right.... hard to see on some screens i've noticed):

well it was using my dad's dimage 7 on shutter priority (or maybe on manual, if that's required to get bulb? maybe it is... hmm).... in any case, i'm not sure which iso i set it to, or if it set itself, then you probably know better than i... i'd guess 400 though.

it was literally impossible to see what i was doing and we only had some small little flashlight that i tried to hold and mess with the cam at the same time.

not a great pic overall, but the tree thing was neat.

of course, if you wanted to be really slick, you could set the terminal to be a startup app and open every app through the command line. you would never need the dock again. ;)

Ha, using a fill flash for night shots on foreground images is key - nice Big Dipper shot :D

If you'd have kept it open much longer you might get little streaks instead of stars....

I'm using the 7i. Moxie had one, then a 7hi, now a d100...now I want one! :D

As for the shutter release, I know what u mean. Even with my cheap tripod, I still find I need to stabalize the entire setup to avoid the slightest bit of blur. I should get a release cable, just haven't yet.

The photographer at my sister's wedding this past weekend was shooting with a Fuji FinePix DSLR. After seeing her shoot that entire night with such ease, I've given myself 6-9 months to get on with one of my own. I hope the technology shifts a little bit more & the prices slide to make it worth while. ;)

It's a cable that screws into your shutter release that allows you to hit the release without jiggling your camera around by pressing it with your finger for those looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong exposures. Very handy.

Well, I was going around my suburb with camera in hand a few weeks ago.

Noticed that the sun was coming in from the South-West saw the top of the church, nothing but blue behind it zoomed in and decided rather than centering I'd put it to the left.

When it got developed I thought it would work well as a background.

In terms of a story, one really windy night a few years ago, the top was completely blown off so I thought better take one while it's still there :D

This is the church.

vniow-no, exposé doesn't really do that, but it uses the same window scaling technology, i assume.

Bob: i assume that sparkleytone uses his picture for an AIM icon, and that she was chatting with him in iChat. when you minimize a chat, it becomes the buddy's icon, and if you have MIP, you can drag it all over your screen like a window.

Just a short hike we took on Thursday. The start point is about twenty minutes from where I live, by the Douglas Fir campground. It goes along the Nooksak river. We took about 200 photos on the Sony digital in less than half an hour, just everywhere you look was photogenic. It was a real problem. It was my first of what will be many hikes in this awesome state.

Most of the best pictures were actually portrait oriented, I might hunker down and do some photoshopping on those to make them a cool desktop, because there are some great shots.

And that's my baby sitting on a mossy rock. :)

FYI, everyone try to skirt desktops in this thread that get too racy, I think we all know that a thread can get shut down in that manner. I don't think this particular desktop is at that threshold, but let's not have a competition for the sexiest desktop.

Besides, I have a desktop of Carmen Electra before she started acting like a ho (if there was such a time) and it kicks all your sexy desktop's asses :D

I usually do too, but in this case it's kinda inoffensive to me as it's a nice font, and I like Blizzard a lot as a company.

I was trying to make it look like a Windows machine geometrically...I just cropped out the menu bar, moved my icons to the left (which is why that bar is there) and turned dock hiding off.

Yes, I cropped it out. I originally made it for the little lady's PC. I put the bar on the left there so she could color match her desktop items' text background color to the bar. It is a gradient, but the gradiation does not start until about half way.

It looks much better without the bar, as you can see, the Kangi and ripples are centered in the center of the image, the bar was just an afterthought.

And did anyone notice the skulls under the water?

It's a trick to get past Geocities' hotlinking guard dogs, since certain browsers recognize the JPEG header and stop caring what the filetype is reported as. Mozilla doesn't seem to be one of them any longer, though. I think you have to give it some encouragement by loading it with an IMG tag first.
