View Full Version : Where were you when the G5 was announced?
We've all been waiting for the G5 forever, and its release last Monday was a major step for Apple. After waiting years for OS X and getting it ( or should I say Copland, I mean, er, Rapsody, I mean, er...), it was way cool to finally see the fabled G5. So this is just a fun little thread to see where everyone watched the keynote.
I was on the tail end of my honeymoon at the Durham, NC store (Southpointe), with my wife (a switcher). Sounds geeky, but it was her idea. :)
So, where were you?
Regards,
Gus

in an irc chatroom.
the houston galleria store wasn't showing the keynote so it wasn't really worth it to go down there.
i decided to take leave from the forums immediately after the wwdc and the inevitable flood of posts that would occur.

At work, nervously checking Apple's web site every 10 minutes, alternating with MacRumors' site and then trying not to get caught slackin'.

I don't think its quite appropriate to joke about the murder of someone. Whether or not you believe the conspiracies or how good a president Kennedy was is irrelevant. The fact remains someone was murdered that day and joking about it is not exactly well, funny.
Right here, through the whole thing.
Tazo, the whole point is that the "where were you when...." thing has sort of been overdone. It's lost its impact. Sort of like the word "gay" no longer means what it did in the early 1900s and has morphed into something else in the past few years. Your respect for a word or phrase may not be shared by others.

Your right Ugg. I have to respect people's right to make jokes about another person's death. I do not want to drag this thread off topic so I will close with this: that was a slap in the face with the 'gay' comment.

sitting in a diner, having a burger, after returning from UPS where i'd mailed off my 15" powerbook. So much for replacing it with a brand new one to be announced at WWDC...

i agree on the gay thing. whether its right or wrong most people im around gay has morphed into the a word similar to stupid. like... that's gay (because its dumb). dont know how it got that way but thats whats happened.

Watching television, that's the ticket.
News, MSNBC -- because that darn Apple broadcast wasn't on.

I remember it like it was just not too long ago.I was sitting on chaosmint.com, waiting for the page to refresh. It did, and my G5 wishes had all come true. Such a heartwarming story, isn't it.
I was at work without access to a computer. How much do I rock?

In front of the computer in my chair, in Austin, in Texas, In the US, in North America, in the World, in the solar system, in the galaxy, in who knows what.
But my mind was not there ^^^ , it was inside the IRC chat. ;)

i was among the first people to sit down... was standing at first, then two people sat down and me and my friend followed them... so we were right in front of the seated people, towards the right as you face the screen.

I was actually home that day (wife was out of town). I had a video on for the kids. About three quarters through my net connection went out (DSL). After many unsucessful attempts to reconnect, I called the phone company to see what was going on. Phone didn't work either.
I went out to get the mail and saw a phone company van working on one of these small green phone hubs by the side of the road (we live in a rural area 2 miles from a tiny, tiny town (in another state) that happens to have DSL). I walk over to him "Dude, you've got to get my DSL back on". He gives me some jumbo about something and say's he'll call me when it is fixed.

when i heard about the G5, i was on my G3 ibook and pondered a future of G4 propelled ibooks and G5 powerbooks
i wasn't quite sure what apple was going to call the new 64 bit ibm chip, but as boring as G5 sounds to me, it makes sense since it's a generation past the altivec powered G4
but i hope when the next generation comes along, apple will have a better name than G6

I was on a turbo prop plane flying from LA to Inyokern. (For those that don't know, Inyokern is close to Death Valley) I had a meeting at the Naval Air Warfare Center - Weapons Division - China Lake. Therefore, I didn't even see the keynote until I got home (DC area) until Wednesday night. Damn business travel.
