It's almost 3AM here on the west coast and I'm going to be going to bed soon, but I want to post the link to my photos before I go to sleep, as I will probably sleep a little late tomorrow and would like to post them as soon as possible.

Enjoy.

Ah well, in all those movies, the geeks get the girl after defeating the jock in front of everyone automatically impressing the girl who really sees past the geeks glasses, smell, hair, life, friend count...
Who's the e-mayhem guy?
I'm sure he has tons of friends, but those friends may not have lives ;)
Just kidding all ;)

Nice pics. Does not seem as crowded as Michigan Ave store opening was ... but hey, that was ONLY the 3rd Apple Store to open here, while you have now 5 there ... *cough* :p

Thank you for posting the pictures ibookin'! I hope that your managed to get a good nights sleep. Did you take any pictures of the store itself, that is beside the one inside photo? I have always found it great to be in line with Mac people, always good conversation!

Well, I'm glad everyone likes the pictures. Yes, I did manage to get a good nights sleep. There are pictures of the store itself on the emayhem weblog. http://www.emayhem.org, but I couldn't take any because my camera ran out of memory right when I got in the store, and my card reader does not work with Panther.
Giaguara: It was actually quite crowded. The line went around the block. I was quite glad I got there when I did.
Wardofsky: The emayhem guy is the one called Hal. Zach Brock, who runs emayhem along with Hal, was also there.
Tazo: Thank you. I am 15 and I do go to college. I am in a special program that allows me to do this. http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/eep

He's cheating on you. He loves his Mac soooo much that he would leave you for it. He is hoping that one day, his Mac will call out to him, "Josh. JOSH!! I love you. Come to me. Hold me, I need love. Forget that girl you're seeing and love me. I love you, Josh. I love you."
Check your girlfriend's email, Josh. ;)

I love you."Don't fall for it, Josh. It's a trick! That G5 you bought from the guy in the alley behind the Apple Store isn't a real one. It's an evil clone that will try to get you to come close enough so it can grate you like shredded cheese with its case, and then put you on a taco. We must all learn to recognize evil computers when they infiltrate our homes. For practice, review the plots of these movies: Demon Seed (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0075931), Colossus: The Forbin Project (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0064177), and, of course, 2001: A Space Odyssey (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0062622).

amazing!!!reminds me of my friends in my youth 25 years ago...he he
you guys are the next generation of true techies/geeks/coders/hackers/etc
when the high tech industry and dot.com field go down the toilet, like it currently is now, all the fair weathered wannabes disappear back into the brick and mortar fold
in my school, there are very few people still interested in majoring in computers
but from the pictures, it looks like the people i see can't imagine doing anything besides computers
...you guys keep the flame alive in computers when the rest of the world has turned their back on it because there is no quick buck in some startup:p

If I PM my e.mail adress, would you send some pictures?
Jef you paint a sad commentary on the current state of affairs in the computer industry. Does it have to do more just with our current economy? Are schools beginning to return to Apple Again?

i have been a techie since '99 so i saw the rise, and fall of the industry....one cycle...it's cyclical as my friend who has been there since there since the '80s has pointed out to me...when the economy is down, high tech is usually even lower, but opposite when things get good
i hope schools return more to apple but everywhere i look and as i talk to others the trend is for dell and education...dell isn't bad as far as pc machines go, but macs are longer lasting and os x is just perfect for kids...when they grow up into the working world, it will be just a small adjustment when they go to a pc in the business environment
value for dollar is with the macs...also less upkeep over time and less need to hire techie staff...and in some cases, no need to hire techie staff if we are talking macs
all schools i have seen with macs have the teachers and students keep the macs going....that's how well designed and user friendly macs are ...still...compared to pcs

The choices students make when choosing their major and their intended career do follow the ups and downs of the job market. The dot com boom had a delayed reaction on the number of computer science students emerging from universities, and the dot com bust is having a similar result, in the other direction. But not all students are reading the want ads as they choose their major, and the effect is further muted by the time delay between entering and exiting the universities.
Are schools returning to Apple? No. I've seen decisionmakers swing from "Apple computers are intended for education - let's buy Apple" to "PC hardware is cheaper - let's buy Windows PCs". Now I think there's a healthy competition and most educators understand that they should weigh the choices rather than rely on blanket statements like these. In K-12, the emphasis is on (1) teaching basic computer skills and (2) using computers as a tool in the study of all subjects. Both Macs and PCs can serve these needs, and the software used is often the same for either. The differences matter more to the teachers who must learn to use these tools and to the poor sap (me!) who keeps the computers up-to-date and running. Training teachers? I prefer Macs. Maintenance? I prefer Macs.
Now how did we end up discussing these subjects??

and was even more jealous when you invite fellow mac users over to your house and was so jealous she wanted to kill you when your house was full of power mac/iBook boxes :p
oh and don't forget the time you had three sexy iBooks and an iMac on your desk all at the same time :p
