Over the course of the last year I've bought about $4500 of product.

When I include what I've spent on photographic equipment, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $6000. ;)

I get a new Mac every 5 years, and spend £2000 ($3000)each time on a Mac. However I also buy new versions of Mac OS if my current computer supports it. My PB G4 550 is my current and third Mac.

I upgrade my PC every 6months and spend no more than £250 ($320) a year doing so. So I actually spend less money on my PC than Mac. However I always have a top of the range PC, but my Mac is always out of date as soon as I buy it.

Let me think about:

3600 DEM for my iMac
399 EUR for my iPod
340 EUR for my Airport stuff

that's 2579 EUR.

Let me add the 3000 EUR for the new Power Mac G5, then it's about 5579 EUR which is 4809 EUR without VAT, so we have:

4218 USD

besides the ibook i bought 3 1/2 years ago, i just get a new ibook ac adapter every year...the thing breaks at the plug and shorts out but the macwarehouse people told me that's quite normal...about a 12 month usage life...give or take

actually the ac adapters have been made by vst for quite some time now even though they have the apple logo on it...so i have not really bought an apple product since the ibook

i thought about getting, at one point, some version of os x for it, but with just 160 mb ram max on it, i have found out thru these forums that that is not enough...even if i get a 256 mb sodimm which i heard will now work on the ibook, for a total of 288 mb of ram running with a 300 mhz g3 processor/256k lvl2 cache, is ridiculous for os x:p

but i heard from macworld, this august issue, that the latest incarnation of jaguar, 10.2.6, works decently with the latest g3/512k lvl2 cache 800 and 900 mhz ibooks

Ok, lets see...

$2500 US on a powerbook
$250 for an AE base station
$50 for Apple Pro Keyboard

but that doesn't include software like virtual pc, studio mx, my tom bihn carrying case, logitech wireless mouse, kensington usb hub and laptop security cable, a usb jump disk, the canon elph digital with its 256MB flash card, Epson c82 printer.... various cables, cords, power surge protectors, and insurance to give me peace of mind.

It was quite a year. Now if only I could afford a 20" LCD from apple.

I bought a dual 867 and some software upgrades for myself, but at work I just put in the PO for a G5, an eMac, another G4 tower a few months ago, a pile of software so about $9000 in the past 3 months.
All my money are belong to Apple.

Since I got my 15 gig ipod with a $150 gift certificate from Amazon.com, I only spent $250 on it, plus another $19 for the USB 2 cable (so I can connect it to my work machine).

Currently have $1200 in the bank, with the goal of buying a computer this time next year before I head off to college.

Not as much as I'd like to have, that's for damn sure, but thousands between myself and in my name over the years. Once had a brand new MacTV.........and a LaserWriter 600, Performa 3630 or 6360, whatever, I think my LC was new...A lot of stuff I don't remember if it was "new" or not when I got it, but in 15+ years, quite a bit. Oh, and $58 on iTMS

In the past year I haven't spent anything on computer equipment. I waiting for the right time to purchase a Power Mac G5. Undecided about this Fall or waiting for the Rev B. The Apple Care runs out on my G4 September 1st, so far no problems except software glitches.

That's a great rule to follow, but I have a hard time waiting that long. Right now I buy a new system whenever my needs change. Two years ago I bought a blazing 733 g4 with superdrive for $985 (a microcenter mistake), this spring I bought my powerbook, with apple care and the compUSA screen warranty it was $4021. I'll continue travelling until next June, after which I'll prolly by my new g5. :D

current industry trends make it even possible to get a nice machine for even two thousand dollars...but the way software development moves so fast, it's hard to stretch a machine past four years

if you have the money, every three years, or even two years is fine

and the crazy gamers....every year, of course:p
