Serendipity All my computers and related equipment are named after characters in Kevin Smith films.

In this case Serendipity was a muse, which seemed good for an iPod.

Ummon was the name of the AI that was running Case and Corto in Neuromancer, Wintermute was a sub set of Ummon, self aware and trying to warn them I think.

Been a while since I read it, I'm just getting back into the Bridge Trilogy, and then I have Pattern Recognition to tackle.

I don't know about a name but I am probably going to get a future one inscribed with:

Apple.
Because everything else sucks.

I used an original name that is the combination of two of my favorite terms:

Pyroneer.

It goes with my habbit of naming Macs after their codename.

To and extent.

The Rock Clock.
Only a few hundred songs.

"My iPod" or "this thing" as in "I love this thing/my iPod"

I don't name inanimate things. My girlfriend does, though. She calls my iBook "Natasha" because it's an evil mistress-like name and she gets jealous when I'm using it (cheating on her, of course).

I just call it 'ipod.'

I don't see any real need to give it an over-the-top name.

I am curious though as to what type of iPods Macrumorites have. I've got the 15GB with 2.0.1.

Original 10gig, 6.5 gigs of AAC@160kb/s, around a gig of files and stuff, room for more music, I tend to delete stuff I don't listen to much, so it's been at around 6 gig for a few months.

Incedentally, anyone had trouble with the belt clip on the Apple case? I snapped mine off getting up in tube train, and Apple won't replace it, they say it's "open to abuse". I'm damned if I'm paying £35 for a new one, I'm going to get a nice leather one.

Apple customer service can really suck sometimes.

3 gen. 10 GB... almost full.

i call it 'jPod'... replaced the 'i' with a very similar looking 'j' for the first letter of my name... thought it was subtle but effective.

2G 10GB iPod with no specific name. Yes, I had trouble, too. My iPod has only been a few days old and this thing broke, when I sat down. But as my iPod was broken, too, for another reason, I got a complete new one. I've been more careful with this one, but after a few months, I sat down again and - it broke again. Damn! I always kept stuck at the arm of the chair and the clip couldn't stand the force.

I've got the original 5 GB, got it in december the year it came out. 2001, right?

Anyway, I always felt the iPod had a solid construction and really felt great in your hands. But the other day, I was in compusa and I saw the new iPod for the first time. I knew it would be slimmer, which I was wary of...I was afraid it could take away from the solid feel.

But more than that, it just felt cheap. The scroll wheel and button feel far more plasticy because they are smooth now instead of slightly rounded.

Am I the only one who feels this way or has anyone else felt that the new iPods are just not made as well?

Yo, what the hell!?!?! I've been through 2 of the damn things too. I've concluded that they're poorly made and they break regardless of how careful you are with them.

And yeah, there's no ****** way I'm paying $40 for another one.

"squid pod"

bennetsaysargh
Jul 14, 2003, 12:23 AM
my 15GB's name is ryPod.
tacky, yes. but i love it anyway. in the past i've had iMoose, and The 'Pod.

and to job, the reason you give it a name is because the computer wants one for it. i don't walk around town with the response, "i'm listening to iMoose!" or "i'm listening to the ryPod!"
lol:p maybe i should do that:p

oh yeah, and before i forget, "squid pod"?
care to elaborate?

i don't have an ipod, but if i did, i would probably name it...maybe i will call it cody ;)

ipods are about music and therefore fun

but in contrast a computer sometimes is a tool for work and not always booted up for recreation so therefore less likely to get a pet name

I named mine "ShinyPants", because 1) it's shiny and 2) i used watch Pinky and The Brain a lot, and in one episode Pinky becomes mayor of a town, renames it "Shiny Pants" and everyone has to wear shiny pants. I thought it was funny, so I named my iPod that when I got it.
