Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place...I couldn't find a forum for site discussion and questions, so the Community Discussion forum will have to do :)...

Anyway, I was just wondering, in the forums, when it shows a user's status underneath their screen name, what's the difference between Banned and Guest? How do you become a Guest, and how is that different from just being Banned?

Being banned means that the IP of that user has been blocked, if not the series of IP addresses, so you don't want to be that.

Being a guest means that you are not registered, these days on MR, you can't post without being registered.

Yeah if your a guest... well it doesn't happen anymore so you can see how rare it is.

The only time that I saw banned under someone's names was yesterday. I don't think I've ever noticed guest!

I believe the status of 'guest' also occurs when the user account of an individual has been deleted.

I though I remember a time where a person could be un-registered and post, it was wayy back tho.

that's how it was before one of the big events drew tons more people posting and so arn added the registration requirement.

Excellent, I knew that that had happened in the past.
