well you can have them too those videos are true I just did it myself....
http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_ringtone_installation.html
....it's not too hard, at first i saw the warning message said screw it, and everything went through can still sync and all that junk...
those iphone dev people basically have access to phone filesystem (old news) which is very cool for the short amount of time it took them... awesome.
if you poke around the phone's drive do not start moving stuff around or it will probably mess up your phone. that was my impression after following the tutorial... especially the last folder your in....

Someone over on <some site> claims to have figured out how to get custom ringtones and other things into the iPhone.
Mubs posted a guide that outlines the details. It's pretty geeky, but it looks like it will work. Personally I don't want to try it until other more bold people do. You can find it at <some site>
If you try it, let me know. I'm pretty interested :P

I really want to try it, but I also really like my iPhone. Someone else do it first! Then I will as long as theirs is still alive..lol

Translation: could someone please break their phone so I can get my iPhone to sing "Endless Love" when my girlfriend calls.
Just say no!

Yep, it looks like the site owners got it working. They posted it to the front page.
Maybe it's nothing to be worried about?

Self-promotion isn't a crime, it just feels somewhat curious when someone's not up front about it.

You might as well just put it in your signature. And say "I got it working" or "I posted it to the front page".
Oh man, this is such great news. I've been waiting forever for this to happen. I actually just read this over at the <some site> before you guys posted. I think those guys need a widget like you guys do.
Man, this was such a crazy day. It's amazing how such a goofy little thing like that could cause such a ruccus. It was everywhere; here, <some site>, Google news. Nuts. Biggest thing I couldn't believe was that it made the stock fall. This sounds really good. I actually just read the same thing over on <some site>. They seem to think that the iPhone is going to be announced on the 11th and the only reason for support training being complete on the 20th is because that's when they'll start shipping.
I duno, you guys (Macrumors and <some site>) always seem to have conflicting release dates. It may just be anticipation, but I hope it gets released on the 11th :P
I'm not sure if I believe this or not.
The guys over at <some site> don't seem to either. That or they don't care. It seems to be a great site though. They keep up on the rumors and such. It looks like when the iPhone comes out they're going to get busy on hacking the thing. In the meantime I think it's going to stay mostly news oriented. The front page has news, but I like the forum.
Check them out! (http://www.macrumors.com)
How 'bout it Michael (http://imeigue.blogspot.com/)? Do the right thing... it was kind of fun to follow the breacrumbs of your online identities, but its clearly you. ;) It's good news though, definitely. You were very bold to take the risk.

Hi guys. Being that I am always one to take one for the team and test the newest hacks, etc. I followed the guide on iPhone alley. I wasn't really scared since i'm pretty comfortable using Terminal since I painstakingly did coding similar to this when I got the wireless card on my Sony Vaio working under Tiger 10.4 OS X when it got leaked and we all got "Intel OS X" running. After editing my mp3, it took a couple of minutes, but at the end I had my edited "Way I Are" by Timbaland greeting me when I called my phone. No more Mariamba =) All syncing and normal functions were working just fine before unlocking the file system. I'm very happy right now, and now look forward to phone calls once again. Now i'm waiting for MMS messaging =)

so say i prepare to upload one ringtone to test it.
and then decide later to create a few more for use on the iPhone...do i have to start the whole process described in the instructions all over again?
or do i just repeat steps 15-17...

Depends if u left the files still unzipped on ur desktop, and ur terminal session. You will still have to do the restart thing with yellow message to enable the recovery mode every time. I dunno if you still have your terminal session open pointing to the the tools directory. I believe you still have to erase and recopy the plist file as well. Hope that helps. I say next time ur in, just copy a bunch of desired ringtones into the tools folder and copy them on ur phone in one shot.

I never mess with the terminal and even with the step-by-step directions this seems like it is for the folks who have a working knowledge of UNIX coding.
Think I'll wait for the "iPHONE install for Dummies" version.

I read somewhere (Engadget I think) that this hack can only be done on Intel-equipped Mac's. I have a PowerBook G4.
So has anyone gotten this to work on a non-Intel Mac?
More importantly, has anyone really gotten this to work?
Haha thanks.
