no person where i am from became famous
of course, with 4400 people, the odds are very slim indeed
in the neighboring city, which is more than ten times the population, pete incaviglia the baseball player is kind of a local hero there since he's the only hometown hero
and about 20 miles away, the local artichoke festival in castroville once had a relatively unknown los angeles starlet by the name of marilyn monroe come up here to be the event's first queen

Elvis Stojko, the men's figure skater.
Hayden Christensen: aka - Anakin Skywalker/Darth.
Some pop group as well. They were big 2 summers ago.......and then they forced into involuntary retirement.
And FYI, I live in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, which is a city directly adjacent to Toronto, the greatest city in the world.
*sigh*
If only that were true. :(

There have been a few Olympic Gold Medalist from my town(A Lil' under 20,000 people) and the one next to it(about 10,000). Charlie Ward wasn't born in my town but he grew up and went to high school here and his dad is a substitute at our highschool, who I have had a few times. Jackie Robinson was born in the town next to us. And then there is a bunch of other people that go on to be in the NFL and stuff like that since South Georgia's religion is football and were good at it.

Buzz Aldrin was born in my town, about two blocks from where I live, there's a rock with a plaque in front of his house.
Richard Burgi, a TV actor is from Montclair, NJ as well.
Several celebrities live in montclair but were not born there, there's actor Joe Morton, Yogi Berra, Olympia Dukakis (Ok, thats pushing 'celebrity'), Jackie Robinson lived here when he died, Michael Strahan of the NY Giants lives here, Christina Ricci wasn't born here, but grew up here and went to the public schools from '88 until '95 (she's in all the old yearbooks, its kinda cool).
Tom Cruise is from the town next to mine, Glen Ridge, but I guess that doesn't count.

Very few people are born in my town, period. It is so small that the maternity section at our hospital is always going out of business! There is an old country singer, John Conlee, who is from my town. I think back in the day he was up there with Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and all the famous classic country singers. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) lives here now. And, George H. Bush, George W. Bush, and Queen Elizabeth II attend church right around the corner from the house I grew up in whenever visiting KY.

I grew up in a town of 1100 people in Nebraska. The only famous person from there is the clown Frosty Little. He is the head clown for the Ringling Bros. Circus.
Of course, last time i visited, i was told i was getting close in popularity. Since i am the only one from my hometown with movie and tv credits.
Maybe they will give me a day like Frosty Little Day. I hope it will be in October. It's the only bearable month in Nebraska. I'm going to start planning my float.

I'm from Iron Mountain, MI. Its the hometown of Tom Izzo (head coach of the MSU basketball team) and Steve Mariucci (the former head coach of the SF 49ers and current head coach of the Detroit Lions).
There has been quite a lot of publicity about the two in sports circles lately. Both coaches grew up in IM and graduated the same year and both made it big around the same time. So the sports press has really latched onto the story. A bit much, actually.
But both of them are really nice guys and are still committed to Iron Mountain and the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. Good people.

the 49ers organization firing mariucci was the stupidest move ever
the niners had a dynasty under walsh/siefert, then the team got old and good players went elsewhere and the team went into the toilet
mariucci then took that rotten team and rebuilt the dynasty around TO, garcia, and stokes and made them winners
without coach mariucci, the niners stars are going to get old and the dynasty will crumble and it may be five or ten years before the niners can regain that status...it might even take 20 years to get back to par and have even an 9-7 season
i cannot think of any move the niner's front office has done to shoot themselves in the foot so badly except for maybe releasing jerry rice, who then took the raiders to the superbowl...while the niners got to stay home and watch it on television:eek:

Yeah, I totally agree. He shouldn't have been let go. He's too strong a coach and had too good a bond with the players to do something as stupid as fire him. Especially since he seemed to want to stay with the team.
But, on the upside, us Michigan-ders are happy because Mariucci will be coaching for Detroit. If he can do even a little of what he did with the 49ers, the Lions might have a chance at not sucking this year.
So I guess I view it as a blessing and a curse.

I was born in Plymouth, UK. Several famous people come from there, my favourite of which is Captain Robert Scott, back in 1868. He was the explorer who reached the south pole, together with a team of 4 others. Having reached their goal, they dropped off one by one, until finally they all succumbed to the cold.
Unfortunately he wasn't the first to make it to the S. Pole, but he's by far the most famous.

Well I know I guy who has a friend who's dad lived next to David Letterman at Ball State!
Anyway, Rochester, IN has a lot of circus history. Elmo Lincoln (the first movie Tarzan), and Paul Spotts Emrick (first director of the Purdue Marching Band and the person responsible for creating marching bands as we know them today) are from Rochester. (Emrick's mother ran a hat shop that my grandmother used to go to!)
