View Full Version : WTB Cheap Mac -- Save My Dad From a PC! *gasp*

My dad is tight. I am having a hell of a time convincing him that for a person who has never used or owned a computer in his life should get a mac. Am I mistaken? ;)

Anyway, the "cost" is being too much for him I'm taking.

But he'll make the leap if he gets a good 'deal'. Does anyone have a decent condition mac for about 200 dollars? Anything above the old G3 blueberry imacs would be great.

A G4 would really hit the spot. Just as long as it works.
Thanks. :D
Edit-> Having a modem is a bonus/necessity. He'll be using dialup.

I'd be happy to sell you a clamshell.

I'd be happy to sell you a clamshell.

Does it have a modem? Could he hook it up to a LCD? Any pics? How much?

I was in the same situation about a week ago, ended up with a 1.25ghz eMac for about $230 shipped. Great computer, definitely check out craigslist or ebay for those!

if you already have a monitor, there is a post in Marketplace where a guy is selling gigabit and sawtooth G4 powermac towers on ebay. They are all at like $10 right now with decent shipping. I'm bidding on one and there are 3 more similar ones. Check it out: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=329196

just don't bid on the one i'm winning!

The clamshell has a modem, but no external monitor support. PM me if you're still interested.

I might be happy with selling my iMac now that I have an iBook.

It's specs:

Graphite edition
600MHz PPC G3
40GB 7200RPM hard drive
512MB [2x256MB PC133] RAM
2 USB, 2 FireWire 400
Slot-load CD/DVD player
Runs 10.4.10 excellently :D

Not sure about selling it yet, but you can make an offer if you like it

You could consider lying to him.

Get a $4-500 machine and tell him that it only cost $2xx.

Consider it an un-credited birthday present or something.

Lol.

I don't have that kind of money just to give him. ;) Though I would. I tried getting him a wireless keyboard today from a garage sale (Logitech) and it didn't have the receiver! D'oh! They took it back though.

Check craigslist for your city - there are often great deals to be found. I just picked up a g4 ibook in perfect condition for $180.

I may end up doing that. Only thing is not many people use Craigslist in my town. Too small.

But I'll keep that as an option. I am currently bidding on one of the G4s.
