I have a .dmg file of OSX. Not pirated, given by a friend who MAY have pirated. He says he didn't but I don't trust him. Anyway... how can I install OSX onto a pc using a .dmg file?

I tried to search for a forum related to this, but I think PC is too short of a search term, because I searched the entire forum with no results. I did find one where a guy wanted Leopard on his PC no idea how he got that. It got closed before instructions were posted.

Unfortunately, we're not allowed to post solutions to situations like this, as they would violate the OS X user license agreement.

It says I can't install OSX onto a PC in the license agreement?

I believe it states that you are not allowed to install it on non-Apple hardware.

This, in itself, is piracy. Distributing OSX in any form other than official Apple install CDs/DVDs is piracy. Just because you did not download it does not make this legal.

well...crap...I'll find the section that says that.(if it even exists) If I don't find it...I'll be back!

Fine fine I'll just...buy a mac or something...or maybe emulate it

EDIT: Ok I called up my buddy and he has a legal copy of it, what he gave me is a back-up of the installer. I'm still assuming that will be a problem or would it?

Illegal to emulate OSX also.

There's a reason why Apple don't let people clone their OS - so they can choose the hardware standards and design their operating system to suit that best.

Actually it's not illegal. It is a breach of a civil contract between the user and Apple entered into when they install the OS. Unlike passing unauthorised copies of a copyrighted work between friends. This is a criminal act.

Yep...here's a pdf of the agreement (http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosxpanther.pdf).

Yep, installing the full OS X on a non-Apple branded computer is a violation of the license terms. So is using a .dmg file you got from your friend, who is presumably using the single license that accompanied his disc.
