This story has been plasted all over the news this past weekend. But what the media never mentioned is that the study took data from another study designed for a completely different purpose (Framingham). All the "friends" used were contact info in case researchers lost touch. So the researchers have no clue how many other friends were in the social networks and what the results were. I have posted a link to a further critique of this study. I noticed all the post here were short, so I didn't want to post something too long. The link has links to original study, a readable media version, and another critique by a medical writer.
