I have a good condition 20gb 3rd gen ipod, except it won't turn on. I've tried charging it over my nanos USB cable (I know it won't sync, but it should at least charge), and nothing happens.

Ipod only, if I find extras I'll include them - $30 shipped.

Does it turn on when it is plugged in?

3rd gens can only charge over firewire.

EDIT: And they CAN NOT charge over USB. They can sync over usb though, albeit it saps battery life pretty quickly.

This model can't change via USB, only sync.

didn't apple release pc versions of the 3rd generation that charged over usb? or was that 4th generation?

Yeah, at one point I had a third gen and I'm 99% sure I was using it with a USB cable, as that's what I've got now. At one point I had a firewire cable too, but sold it with a 4th gen just after getting the third gen, and for several months I used it with the USB cable....

If a there is a 3rd gen that can charge via USB Ill eat my hat (If it's made of something edible).

The "can't sync over firewire" was an issue that brought about that funky USB/Firewire hybrid cable for the iPod. I should know ... I have one. :)

I'm with the others in saying that the 3rd gen can sync over USB but can only charge over Firewire.

EDIT: If you'll post some pictures, I think I'd do $25 shipped. I have an iPod/firewire cable around here somewhere to go with it.

Ya I just sold a 3g ipod and when I got it it wouldnt do anything -- plugged it in with my wall charger from my original 40gig photo, and the thing started right up.
