SOLD
I have a Nikon D50 that I am considering selling so I can get a D200. It's a great camera but I do a lot of night photography and need a back-lit top LCD screen and wouldn't mind upgrading.
I have the D50 kit with the 18-55 mm lens that I would like to sell for $450 plus shipping. I have everything from the original box and I would also include a 1gig sd card and the wireless remote for the D50.
If someone just wanted the camera body by itself I would sell it for $400 plus shipping.
I also have a Sigma 70 - 300 lens that I just have not used very much. It's the one that usually goes for somewhere between $200 - $250 + shipping depending on which retailer you go to. I really haven't used this lens very much (as I said I try to do a lot more night photography and this lens is good but needs a lot of light). I would sell this one for $125 plus shipping and it comes with a little soft case.
As I said... this is a great camera. I even make money off of it at istockphoto.com. Here is the last photo I have taken and uploaded from the week after fourth of July http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup_edit.php?id=3895590
You can also see all my other galleries at my website http://www.dawsonsrejects.com
Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Check your competition on eBay and other such places - complete (new) D50 kits are going for under $400. The Nikon 70-300mm zoom is available refurbed from Nikon USA online for around $99 on a regular basis, too (I know - I bought one from them!)
Sad to say that will the rapid release of the other (newer) models in this line the depreciation on models like the D50 and D100 are pretty severe. As you probably know, for what you could buy a D50 new a few years ago you can now get a D40, which is a better camera.
I suspect I'm not telling you anything you don't already know... you're probably better off hanging on to it, as you'll take a beating trying to sell it on the secondary market.

First off... I'd just like to thank you for telling me what I can and cannot get for my inferior products. Thank you for your insight. Are you serious?
Could you please do me and everyone else a favor... if you are not interested in a product could you please just not post anything. I and others don't need you offering your opinions on products. Especially when those opinions are just that... OPINIONS. If other people don't wish to buy then they won't buy.
I have see the D50 body only on bhphotovideo recently going for $400. They have since sold out sometime over the past two weeks when I last checked. I have also seen CLOSED auctions on ebay going up to 400 - 500 dollars recently for the same thing I am selling. It is easy to go to ebay and see auctions still a day away from close going for 300 - 350.
I have also seen the sigma lens going for 100 - 150 dollars on ebay and used photography sites.
And as far as saying the D40 is a better camera... that is complete opinion. Sure the D40 is newer and has a bigger LCD screen. But the D40 also lacks important features like the lack of a lens motor in the body. That turns some of Nikons most popular lenses such as the 50mm 1.8 into manual focus only lenses. Now maybe for someone that has never touched an SLR will not care. They will simply hang on to the kit lens and walk around then yes the D40 is better. But that is one big feature cut from that camera that has a lot of people hanging on to the D50's, D70's, or upgrading to a D80. I won't even mention the cut out of the status LCD.
Lastly, the prices I have put are not bottom of the line. It's a starting point. I would be more than happy to entertain resonable offers from people.

I and others don't need you offering your opinions on products. Especially when those opinions are just that... OPINIONS. If other people don't wish to buy then they won't buy.To be fair, the MR Marketplace rules (http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:Marketplace_Rules#Rules_for_Sellers) even state that if a thread title has the word "Feeler" in it, it opens the thread up for peoples' opinions. Again, it's helpful to read the Marketplace rules (http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:Marketplace_Rules).
And for the record, MacDann's post reads as being quite level-headed and not rude at all.

Go to ebay if you want to sell stuff and not have others telling you your prices are unrealistic. Here people WILL offer opinions and will point out what they think is a fair. And why put "feeler" in the tile if ou didn't want opinions about the value.
What this goes to show is what I always try to point out to people looking for a new dSLR body -- The DSlRs are ephemeral, they come and go and are like computers, not really an "investment" but more like a pack of film. You buy then, use them up and then buy more. Computers, camera, film, food are pretty much the same in that way.
Lenses are different. If it was a _quality_ lens whaen you bought it it will remain a quality lense 20 years from now and will hold it'svalue. The reason is that dSLR technology is moving fast. no on wants an old model. But optical technology is mature and changes very slowly. I have a lens made in the 50's (in Germany by Carl Ziess) that is still as good as what they sell today except the mount is for a very old SLR.
That said my advice is to buy a used body. They are dirt cheap and most work as well as when new. Notice I say "buy" not "sell". They are not
worth selling.

Well my apologies for putting feeler in the title... or better yet for not starting a new thread when I did indeed decided to sell. At first I was just thinking about selling then later decided I would sell. I read the rules years ago when I first came to macrumors but have never really sold much except for one other group of items so I must have missed that. I will take that into consideration next time... however I feel even if it just said for sale I would have received the same critique of my sale. Maybe Not.
What I said was written out of anger for MacDans post stating an opinion as fact but he was not the only one it was directed to. I just don't understand why people feel the need to comment on things like this if they have no interest. You can all blast me if you want for my comments but I know I am not the only who gets upset. You get an email saying that someone has made a comment to your post and you get excited... then you come to see someone giving their opinion of how another something is better or cheaper and you shouldn't waste your time selling. I just don't understand why a person cannot just look at the post, realize it's not what they want, and move on. I'm not saying that everyone has to go by the golden rule on the forums but I guess I just don't see the need to comment if it's not something you care about.
I will take the fault for this one and apologize to everyone including MacDann since I had feeler in the title... I have learned my lesson.

Well my apologies for putting feeler in the title... or better yet for not starting a new thread when I did indeed decided to sell.Um, no, if you read forum and marketplace rules, multiple threads are against rules. The "extra" threads would be deleted. Instead, you can (including for this thread) edit your own thread title and OP (original post) to reflect your most current offer. :)
however I feel even if it just said for sale I would have received the same critique of my sale. Maybe Not.

If that ever happens, feel free to click this lovely little icon/ button: http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/report.gif and report that post.

i know it's bad for sellers, but having opinions like that help potential buyers (perhaps like myself) who aren't up to date with products like yours. yes it stinks for sellers, but that's why products tend to go for less of mR Marketplace.
we have people helping us make decisions. you can def get more on ebay, bc there's not discussion about that product. expect posts like above when selling here. i say it's good for everyone.

No need for apologies. It was not my intention to threadcrap - this was listed as a feeler.
As a purchaser of a new D50 roughly a year and a half ago, I know all too well the pitfalls of trying to stay current in the present photography industry. Having shot stock for nearly 20 years and only recently joined the "digital age" with the D50, I have been amazed at the seemingly runaway progress in the camera business, with the accompanying dizzying depreciation of models that are barely six months old. I'm used to my Mamiya M645 Super or RB67 that have held their values for years, and continue to do so.
The camera market has entered the same realm of computers and other technology. Manufacturers race to get products to market that barely differ from something they sold only months ago. As a result, something new comes out just weeks after you bought what you think was the latest and greatest, and now you have a near comparable device that has 50% of its original value. I did not say or suggest that the D50 was an "inferior product" - more like it's out of date relative to what is now being sold, that's all. It's still a very good platform to work with, I really like mine and will continue to use it for a long time to come.
I can understand your desire to get top dollar for your camera, as we all would. However, that being said, I just don't think this forum is the place, based on my observations of sales of just about everything that goes through here, that's all. That's what I like about the marketplace - the things I see being offered for sale here nearly always have fair and reasonable prices (don't take that as an inference that yours wasn't!)
Case in point: I bought a brand new Nano here a month ago for $130. The same thing is selling on eBay for a minimum of $175. People as a whole pay way too much for things on eBay, for reasons we won't go into here.
Do a good job of marketing and you can probably do OK with it on eBay. I have things I have sold on eBay rather than here mainly because I know I can get more for them (on eBay.)
Sorry to have offended.

Yeah welcome to MacRumors Marketplace. Where people will tell you your stuff sucks, and is going for cheaper on ebay.

Just to help out a little....
The Nikon D50 does not suck. It fact it is considered one of the best entry level DSLR cameras out there. Yeah the D40 is wonderful and it has some nice gadgets to get people to jump on board but the D50 is a tested camera that produces amazing results with very liitle noise. The price might be a little high but the camera is a great camera. People are still choosing the D50 over the D40 today because of the image results.

I'm interested, however I'd like to know how old the camera is and how many shutter actuations you have. Also, do you use filters on your lenses at all times?

The camera was purchased in late Oct/Early Nov of 2005. I use it for a weekend then it sits in my closet on a shelf for a couple of weeks. I really haven't used it much over the past 4 months since I got my new job.
I rarely use filters but on occasion I will put on a UV filter.
The sigma has been extremely rarely used.

Are there any scratches or the like on either lens or the camera body? Also, would you take $500 for the camera and both lenses? My only problem is I do not have the funds immediately available.

I already responded in your PM but I will tell everyone else... The camera has no blemishes worth mentioning. The very bottom of the camera has minimal wear where the camera connects to the tripod... other than that it's clean.
I will also tell everyone else what I have told a couple of people in PM's.
I am missing the little video cable that goes from the camera to a tv. I have no idea where it went since I have never used it before. I thought I left it in the box but it was not there. I am also missing the flash hot-shoe cover.
Because of this I am lowering the price to $400 plus shipping for the kit.
Or $500 for the whole package and I will throw in shipping up to $15 dollars.
Here are pictures of the camera. In the first shot of the camera... there are not actually any scuffs on the left hand grip... Those marks are from the mirror I had to shoot through.
