Decide to join Macrumors as their choosen discussion site??
I asked this question in another thread, but decided it might be worth adding it as it's own thread!!!
Personally, although a newbie in terms of registering and posting, I've been following the site for quite awhile, I decided to join this forum as the people who were posted seemed really cool....... (okay I know you're all a fab bunch.... ) I felt like I'd known Eyelikeart, Alpha Tech, krossfyter, AmbitiousLemon, Hemingray, Beej, Macuser, Rower_CPU, Blakespot, and Mr arn for ages....... and you all (well most :D ) seemed really intelligent.... (I apologise if I've missed anyone, they're the names that came off the top of my head!!)
Why did others join Macrumors instead of other Mac sites????
justa wondering thats all!!!
P.s it's a pleasure talking to u all!!!;)

The people here are an interesting bunch. Lots of different views, always happy to help, and ever eager to discuss a rumor!
And the mods aren't a bunch of stuck-up wankers, which is a nice change ;)

I'd been watching things for a while from here, spymac, MacWorld, MacUser, etc. It just seemed to be a better, more well informed community than SpyMac. I still go to the other sites, but this is my home page now.
I'll second Beej's last remark too.

I chose to make this my forum of choice after looking around at what else was out there. I think MacRumors offers a great mix of news, rumors and just plain fun Mac community discussions.
The people here are friendly (most of the time ;) ) and have great senses of humor. It's a pleasure to read these boards and see what people have to say.
Another thing that's so cool about it is that we've got people from all over the world who share info and expertise with each other...MacRumors is a true multicultural community!

I used to hang out at MacCentral and MacObserver, but those places got on my nerves. They attract too many trolls and random people who make really dumb comments. I quickly gave up on those and eventually found this site. I think I found it around the time of the iWalk rumors and just kept coming back. Eventually I stopped going to the other sites as much and found my home here.
I actually like the fact that only a few people control the majority of the posts here. I think it deters people from making blatantly false and stupid comments. When there is a community feel, there is more support and it encourages better conversations. We don't always all agree, but its mostly friendly and mostly intelligent and supportive.

This was actually one of the first macintosh rumors site that I visited, and it simply struck me as the best. I have visited the others, but I like the familiarity of the people on this site.

I used to hang out in MacNN as my main discussion site. To me, MacRumors was great for news I cared about but whos forums were full of whiney so-and-so's! But after I really started paying attention to the forums, I learned that really wasn't the case at all. This community is smaller than MacNN and more focused on rumors, which I prefer. I can't even remember the last time I posted to MacNN. :D

when i first came to these forums, it was due to me beginning to feel the irresistable urge to switch to mac. i just joined the forum and posted saying, hey im here without ever reading any other threads.
the reason i have stayed is deeper tho. after i got my iBook i continued to be able to identify with the older mac users, but still be a new one. one of my main interests here is to see how the "old" mac users are transitioning to OS X. OS X truly is above and beyond any OS out right now in terms of bringing the good things from just about every OS into one OS. I know a good bit of Linux, but it always frustrated me with dependencies and such. I know windows more than i ever care to, but it just sucks. I am having a grand old time being able to use the UNIX core to compile software, administrate my fathers linux ipfilter, and just plain screw around. The best thing is being able to return to the best GUI ever when I am finished. I ccan't wait to see the majority of old mac users make the plunge while the influx of UNIX freaks continues. The OpenSource movement is now a true force, backed by Apple and Steve Jobs.
and i love the people.

This place isnt really "MacRumors" anymore...
Its become Macrumors, MacHelp, MacTalk, MacFun, Mac-Everything!
I love the site, and love meeting mac heads like myself.

I'll second both Rower_CPU and Mac Aztec....... ;)
I'm really looking forward to MWNY, I was following these boards for MWSF and it was hilarious...... So I'm looking forward to playing my part in the madness this time around!!
Oh cheers for answering by the way!!!;)

i started coming to this site around the time when virtually every thread was a monkey poop slinging contest between ex-members such as spikey, john123, kela, etc, and got hooked on the mix of humour and intelligent comments.
My level of technical knowledge about macs wasn't exactly great (despite having used them for 13-odd years), and i've found this place to be a useful resource for just about anything mac-related.
Oh, and the admins here do a good job!

hmm.. all I can remember is that a friend of mine said "you know, you should go to this site." so I came here for the first time, and thought.. "hmm, interesting" (this is when the forums hadn't even started yet). i soon forgot about it though. then suddenly, in mid-December '01, I remembered this site, and I went to it, and saw the forums. Within that week I signed up and have been posting ever since.

I started coming here around MWSF02 and thought it was pretty good. I had never really gone to rumor sites before and was going to as many as I could find at that time.
I liked the mood here the best and after MWSF I was reading a forum and HAD to chime in. So I registered. Thats how it all began. NOw I go here every morning to help me wake up.
I like that its not all Rumors and that theres lots of other discussions about fun stuff like porn filters and such.
This site is definately better maintained and more informed then the others.

i think i started reading these boards around october november(?). i was more of a article type rumor guy so id hit thinksecret, theregister, macosrumors, appleinsider, appleturns. never liked and had never used discussion boards. they were usually dark and hard to follow and mosly just unfamiliar to me. macrumors was actually my least favorite site since it was just discussion boards.
but like most people here after reading the boards for a few months i finally saw a post i had to respond to. i registered and it made me start coming back regularly and i found i actually like this discussion board. i rarely look anywhere else anymore. spend about an hour everyday go through the new posts an responding if i have time. this place is pretty unique i think. never seen another discussion board quite like it.

i also spend about an hour a day, or every other day, and in nearly three years, i make about three posts every two days on average (but sometimes i don't post for days and other days i post a lot)
i originally liked to visit appleinsider.com because they had an incredible track record, then i went to macrumors.com which was ok with their predictions, and if i had time, i would go to macosrumors.com
before the rumor boards, it was just apple inc's site and pcdata.com
the funniest thing i have found is that the people who criticise the rumors boards the most are the ones who don't read them and often misinformed about how accurate the rumor boards are (when read together for a consensus rumor)
the rumor boards told me about the firewire ibook, the dual usb ibook, the quicksilver and most impressively, the cube and the ipod (which i thought were the craziest predictions i have ever heard on high tech...and they came true...unfortunately, i never got to buy a cube and i am thinking about an ipod but i don't have firewire yet in my collection of computers)
but if my wife lets me, i will change that:D

Thanks for the positive sentiments. Also we do a pretty good job of not pulling things from various orifices, as far as rumors go.

I started hangin' out here just before Macworld of this year, because I got caught up in the excitement of the "Macworld Countdown" and the comments here were far superior then "other" sites.
And the posts overall have been entertaining and informative and insightful.
And the administrator of the site has class and good taste. (the way it's all laid out makes total sense and is easy to follow)
Then I bought a Mug, and got a nifty new title.
Why be a member anywhere else?!:p

Actually, I found this website (unknowingly) just removing the "os" in the macosrumors website. When I started reading the articles I saw some turn-ons, a few turn-offs, and many opinions on what Apple will do for their following line of products.
I wanted to post my suggestions and other comments that would seem accurate to me. I also wanted to show off my brother, for when he visited me for Easter. (When I told my father he was actually more impressed!)
Now, I just need to show off my cousin and his parents; they all use PCs!
