On 4:23PM EST Aug. 6 2003, user turtle logged into MacRumors to account for the 20,000th league under the boards.
Of course, this 20,000 does not account for banned users.
Welcome aboard. A new mark has been set.

Interestingly enough, the registered members count only works with active (not banned or guest account) members. There are really more than 20,000 that have logged onto MacRumors...all but 20,000 have been banned so far.

WOW! Pretty amazing! Arn has had a fantastic success with these boards, and it will only continue to get even bigger; nice work!
On a side note, the boards are (fairly) fast approaching 1/2 million posts!!! But that’ll be another thread, another time (when it actually gets there)

the only problem with so many users is that it gets so hard to keep track of what's going on. it would really help if everyone could post in the right area. i've noticed some rearranging and some adding of topics that should help with this, ie: "buying advice".
great work arn, moderators, all those who help, and every member here at macrumors. we've come a long way, but we've only just begun.

I'm relatively new to Mac Rumors, but in the short months I've been reading and posting, I've already noticed significant changes that have made this a great and easily accessible source for info, advice, and general discusion. I hope it continues in this direction in the future.

Or a better fraction than the 0.35% that contribute now... :D
20,000 members is a great milestone -- keep 'em coming!

Wow, I'm glad to see MacRumors growing!
There have been about 6,000 new members since I registered in January, and I'm sure that number will keep on rising.
arn, and all moderators, thanks! You all do a great job. :)

Congrats to Arn for his great site. And all the mods for helping him out. This site alwalys makes give out a chuckle and is highly entertaining. Macrumors.com is like 60% of all the time that i spend on the net. I should have contributed already but I want a damn mug...

How many regularly active members are there? I'm guessing less then 500.

I think there's more than that

I just checked and there are only about 1000 users with over 50 posts. So I'm guessing that if you were able to list by most recent post you would find that only about 300 users are regular users with 50-200 posts and all the rest of the current active members are fly-by-nights that will post a 20 times and move on.

there is probably 400 constant members, ones who post all the time

Not everyone who reads Macrumors posts things in the discussion forums, and if they do not all post regularly. I guess if the definition of a member is posting frequently then you are correct.

It will be interesting to see the 6 month update on top posters to see the changes. In most thing its one third that accomplish the needed tasks. So I'm actually suprised that the active member/regular post number isn't higher!

I usually find that about 5% of people in the world are the ones to that get the work done.

This is really a great milestone, but while 95% of those members contribute to the community or at least don't hurt it, there are still 5% who shouldn't be here. But that can't be helped.
I only registered this january, but I have been visiting macrumors on and off for the past 2 years or so. It really has grown, and in the best possible of ways, given its relatively large size.
Congrats to arn & company for this impressive accomplishment.
