what is good recording software these days?

i went to a guitar center in the LA area and was surprised to see the massive amount of titles there are these days in music recording software

I think that nothing beats the current version of logic... cannot afford it though, and so I stick to good old hardware...

logic and digital performer are fantastic...

cubase is ok but i don't like it

the ultimate is protools but costs a fortune...

for cheaper look at bias deck its not that great but does the job
