How to partition a HD?

My HDD is already in use but how would I split the current space on the HD? A friend of mine gave me a copy of the lastest build of 10.5. I didn't ask question's like where he got this from. Im sure it's obviously he got it from torrent site. So if anyone can help me figure out how to partition my Mac HDD without losing my current settings and files in my 10.4.10.
