well... it looks like you are a programmer..
the orange on purple is a difficult color combination.. it is hard to read if the color is the background.
A suggestion is to mimic the "parent site" -- the main Vineyard site does not overlap the main bg image. to make that work you would have to push the page dimension to another monitor size..
I feel it is acceptable to design for 1024x resolutions now. Some people think you should stick to 800x600,,, I disagree.
The logo on the purple background seems fuzzy...
and the "Welcome" seems out of place.
I do like the Reading@Vineyard logo though.. I would base more of the design on the graphical OOoo center picture..
And -- are you stuck with the colors? or did you pick them? I think a cooler color series might work better..
