and i would be posting a screenshot... except for the small fact that i don't even have my PowerBook yet!
*damn Scum-a-rola, stupid unknown Apple delays...*

I know I should contribute. I waste so much space with my stupid posts and mistakes while trying to post. These monthly desktop threads kill me. :)
As for the image itself, it is better quality than that, but not much. I started off with a screen capture of her performance at the VMAs, so it wasn't that great to being with. And with my primitive Photoshop skills, I blurred everything except her for effect. But I did need to lower the quality quite bit to get it to fit under 100k.
I'll look into that macsnaps.com thing to see if I can do better next time. :D

i don't know if you know this trick, but this is for you and all of those who don't know. the best way i have found to compress an image is using preview to export the image to a jpg, choose the advanced options, select best depth and target size 102400. this will give you an image that is as good as it can get at 102400 or smaller. i get pretty good results on the desktop image, and the icons are the only things that seem to get blurred.

I thought the same thing! I remember seeing a screen capture somewhere (I think on MacAddict) around April when they were talking about the then top secret Panther features and one of them was piles and they had a screen shot that looked much like that saying it was proof that Panther would have the Piles feature. All it looked like was a mass of 15 or so icons all scattered on top of each other.

why are we talking about grab, though? does cmd-shift-3/4 use grab? i thought it was some kind of system screen capture thing.

Eeew, IE, if you're going to use XP, get a decent browser like Firebird (http://mozilla.org/products/firebird/).
http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=257466
It is amazingly fast and an all around great browser. Thousands of times better than IE.
And if not firebird than mozilla. I use both :).

I was just messing around between classes, and happened to output this. Not really too great, considering I did it in 10 minutes, but I've been enjoying it. I looooove Shiina Ringo :D

there's so little room between the proc and the hinged upper half of the machine, that only a desktop beige g3 heatsink would let the case close. there's no room for a fan. :( i actually had this same g4 OC'd to a stable 510 from 450 in my s900 due to a swiftech + delta combo. it ran at 32C. 40C is well under the heat tolerance for the XPC7400

Yes, it looks like blood and aqueous humor. The result of some sort of injurt to the eye. I don't find it gross because of training. Just sad for that kind of injury. Do you know what I'm actually seeing scem0?

There aren't any that I've found that are as good as Synergy. I usually don't buy shareware myself, but this program was just amazing. Not only does it show what what song is playing every time one starts, it allows you to control iTunes from keyboard commands, or from the menu bar, without changing applications. It's really worth the measly 5 dollars the developer asks for.

Try this: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9028. It does almost everything that synergy does and it's free! Hey, I use it. If you look in my desktop image you can see it.

scem0 she looks fake because the photo is manipulated. it's been filtered or brushed to look like some kind of painting. the filter/brush job has the side effect of blending anything in the order of imperfactions into the more dominant shades. although i would bet that even before the filter, any imperfections on her face were covered well by makeup.
my zhang ziyi desktop is void of imperfection as well and it looks fine. i don't feel any inclination to put a zit on her...

Well, I also meant that the shape of her face is too perfect, the size of her breasts are too perfect, her make-up is too perfect, she is way too 'budweiser beer commercial looking'.
I hope I'm not the only one who could picture a chick like that in a budweiser commercial.
Her being airbrushed just annoys me more.

scem0 i agree with you there--i tend to be more attracted to foreign women (don't look at my 'tar). but "uniqueness" is not an imperfection, nor is it really unique. "exotic" women are also rather common. show me a girl, and i'll take you around campus here in Norman and show you several more like her. that you are in america, in a part of it where women who have characteristics that are more like laetita casta's is just an incident of your existence (and mine).

Could you please explain? sure. this picture is actually taken in the lighted room, but it's taken from about 10 cm away from a clear container of water that is roughly the size of a 16 oz. coke can. the lid of this container has a small light bulb that is seated upside down at the end of a downward protrusion in the lid... it's all sealed, and then hooked up to a power source from the top of the lid. that diagonal line on the left of the lower arc of the bulb is the reflection off of an ohmmeter in the water that we used to measure the temperature of it (much more accurate than a thermometer). all the little dots are bubbles accumulated on the surface of each.
here, i'll just include a more... normal shot of what it is.
