AppleTurns (http://www.appleturns.com/) takes a jab at predicting upcoming hardware...

They report that Apple may be introducing a two-button mouse to replace the current Mouse within the next month or so...

Details are sketchy...

I wonder how many 2-button mouse zealots are gonna come out of the woodwork on this one???

I'm hitting ebay right now and buying up as many 1-button Pro Mouses as I can....(it is "mouses" and not "mice" correct?!)

I want a proximity sensitive trackball style bluetooth input device with 5 programmable buttons!!!

Just wave my hand over the empty ball-socket and click!

I want a wireless solution that runs on Dilithium crystals!!!:D

I want enough buttons to not have to do finger gymnastics in Archicad ever again!!!!

Actually I just want a stylus-equipped touch screen. Screw Mice altogether.

Given the fact that they presented this by looking at the two mouse buttons on Mickey Mouse, saw the Disney - Apple connection, blah, blah, blah.

Personnaly, I don't like this sort of story, but they must have come up with it somewhere. Maybe things ARE that slow.

But my final thought on this,

Look at this picture and tell me where the scroll wheel will be:

c'mon it'll be be big as it is to add a second button, do you really want a third right(/scroll wheel) away  ... and AtAT is still unsure about this as they stated... maybe i should send them my Little Mermaid Ouija Board and finally end the rumors.....
:D
yeah... they only second button i'd like on a mouse is a scroll wheel/button...

What I want to see is an Apple branded "wireless desktop"... or at least a wireless mouse & keyboard with a Mac key layout.

Does something like this exist?

...how to send power through bluetooth I'll get a wireless mouse and keyboard. Until then I'll stick with my battery-free corded mouse.

I'd rather have Microsoft provide osX drivers for their 5-button Intellimouse Optical and Explorer.

pimentoLoaf,
They have posted the drivers for the 5-button Intellimouse Optical (and Explorer too I think). Just go to www.mactopia.com and you can get them there. It has some great features and works great so far. :D

Click the drivers for osX are here (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/hardware/intellipointOSX.asp) for the updates.

:D WHEEEEEEEE!!!! :D

I think Apple should stick with the one button mouse as standard on the mac range, if you so desire a 2 button mouse, it should be an option......... but it shouldn't cost the buyer anything in having the 2 button one instead!!!

And it is mouses not mice...... (serious mode for a second) :p

Apple ditched the one button mouse a while back. I think they should stick with the no button mouse! :o

But wouldn't that be cool if they could make their no button mouse right clickable?! :D

Okay you got me.......

No buttons..... it's the only way forward!!! :p

But wouldn't that be cool if they could make their no button mouse right clickable?!

Even Apple aren't that innovative.......:p

But I like the way you're thinking!!!:D

I think the current Apple Pro mouse is a great design. I say leave it as that but put a low profile button in the right corner and a scroll wheel on the left side.

I'm with nero007 on this - Apple should introduce a two button mouse since they now have context menus implimented throughout OS X, however it would be a shame to change the clean lines and simplicity of the current Apple mouse design.

I suspect it would be reletively easy to make an Apple design buttonless mouse that differentiates between clicks top left, top right, middle, bottom left and bottom right. A middle click could be similar to click the scroll-wheel on a Microsoft mouse.

how about a one button mouse (like they have now) with a scroll wheel integrated. and when you click the scroll wheel as opposed to scrolling it, that acts as a "right-click." every scroll wheel i've come across is clickable and it doesn't really "accidentally" click when you are scrolling.

possibly the most intelligent suggestion yet.

still don't really see what the problem is with 2 buttons and scroll wheel. i've been looking for one for a while and i think apple would make the best (especially if they increased the resolution for game players/graphics artists etc)

On the basis that if you can't beat em, join em, it probably makes sense to follow the Microsoft style 5 button mouse unless the come up with something substantially more innovative.

The only other game in two is the UNIX 3 button mouse I guess.

Actually I have one of those. Believe it or not, it's a right and left click buttonless mouse, with a scroll wheel. Transparent, so it lights up, and the scroll wheel is lit bright blue!

It's called a COMMouse, or Crystal Optical Mouse. Only problem with it is that you can't maintain a click drag if you pick the mouse off the table. All Apple mouses allow you to drag to the end of the mouse pad, pick the mouse up and move it back, then continue dragging. I've configured it with USB overdrive and use the scroll click as a click drag, so that sort of solves the problem.

i work web design currently, and have worked in computer animation (where you absolutely need a three button mouse) so i can certainly see the benifits. my only concern is apple destroying their current design in order to accomplish this. the pro mouse is one of the few that feels comfortable and "sturdy." microsoft makes good mouses, but they are all meant for right-handed people (i'm left-handed). they claim it's comfortable for both. and it is, to a point, but it feels so much more comfortable in the right hand, not to mention their extra button mouses where the big-sized thumb button is clearly there for the right hand. they used to make ones for both, but no longer. but also, the pro mouse's molding just feels strong and like i could stand on it or at least squeeze it as hard as possible without damaging it.

If you're squeezing your mouse that tightly, it makes me wonder what sites you've been visiting ;-)

The first thing I did when I bought my iBook is buy a 2-button optical mouse with a scroll wheel. Once you're used to using that second button and scroll wheel, you'll HATE not having them.

Apple could add a second button capability without altering the lines. Just make the part that clicks now, also rock. If you click on the left side of the mouse, it's a left click. If you click on the right side of the mouse, it's a right click.

They could even have some sort of sensor where the wheel would go, that if you make forward & backward motions with your finger over the sensor, it performs scrolling functions.

But if they don't do it, I'll just keep buying third party 2-button wheel mice and keeping the Apple mouse as a back-up. Or maybe using it as a Christmas ornament.

Come on folks....we of all people should know it is mice. Apple innovated mice as a way to input information into computers. It was IBM who made a big stink about it when they released the PC Jr, and they advertised it as the first PCs to use mouses! Look it up in a dictionary if you don't believe me....the plural of mouse is mice!

the plural of mouse id definitely mice.

i think it might be a north american thing. invent new words rather that accept the original ones. i saw this american woman on tv today who claimed she had 'disentangled' a creature. it's just 'untangled'. and what's this 'burglarized'? i think it's 'burgled'

sorry, got a bit carried away there.

Disentangled is real...
Burglarized is real...

Meeces is not, but I can't believe we're arguing over the plural of mouse, so I threw it in for the sake of parody...

Rower_CPU, how about making more sliding balls on it??? One per line?? Of course, you would have to time them so that they don't collide and explode, then again, that might be a cool effect.

I just haven't gotten around to modifying my avatar yet. Other items have been taking up my time. Things like riding the motorcycle :D. It is one sweeeeeeet ride too :D. Went for a few hours on Sunday, and loved it.
