WHY

why is it that when ever you ask some one to do some thing or ask them a question they always seem to give you a response of
WHY

All depends on who or what you're asking.

I ask someone 'would you kill that person' - knowing why is kind of one of the important questions....;)

Is there a purpose for asking this question?

perhaps because if they're going to do anything it has to be someting worth doing, so then they have to ask why you want it to be done, so they can decide if it's worth doing.

and also humans are very inquisitive. :p (did i spell that right?)

may i ask, why do ask that question here?

Why not?

Seriously though, I think it has to do with the fact that as humans, we are naturally curious.

We ask 'why' to avoid answering the question or doing the asked task.

I was reading about a similar issue in a magazine article today. I'd quote it directly but it's in my office (half Sunday School supply room, half youth intern office :D)

Basically the idea is that our sense of self-worth and the value that others attach to us are based on performance--on our ability to perform as expected with regards to behavior, appearance, economic output, etc. As a result, we never do anything unless there is a good reason to do so--if we do something for no particular reason, our value diminishes.

Somehow, I think sitting under an oak tree pondering deep mysteries such as, "Do bugs burp?" and "How do ants hear?" probably increases a person's intrinsic value (I'm being perfectly serious about that one).

Edit: a friend in a rather famous band in our school wrote a song dedicated to a girl named Julia. The chord chart looked like this:

F F F F F F F F F
                      WHY?!!
F F F F F F F F F
                      WHY?!!
F F F F F F F F F
                      WHY?!!
F F F F F F F F F
                      WHY?!!
Then the saxamaphone player would quietly say, "I don't know". It was the smash hit of the year from $3.38 and an Eye. It was their number-one requested song.

It was dedicated to Julia because she would frequently say, "WHY?!!" with no apparent reason. She was pretty cool.
