On German ebay, a Mac user is trying to auction off a... tada...: "New Folder"! He tells us :

This is a brand new 'New Folder' created in MacOS 9.

This new folder is something special. I just created it and didn't even name it yet, so it is still virginal (see picture)!

I'm selling this folder since I mistakenly created it on the desktop and now don't know where to put it. But instead of just throwing it into the wastebasket, I use this way to try to find a new home for the folder on another Apple computer.

Do have pity - the folder lies solitarily on the Desktop. It shouldn't be like that; show a "Heart for Folders" and give a new home to this object. The folder will thank you by serving you faithfully.

The uses for this folder are almost unlimited. E.g. archiving important documents, personal images, music files, graphics, projekts and many others more. Of course you can also name the folder according to your needs. Just rename it. How about "Meier", "Mouse", "bed-time stories", "Clipboard", "Profits" etc. There's no limits for your imagination!

Don't wait any longer - bid on this "New Folder" before someone else does it!

As a surprise, I might pack something into the folder at the end of the auction. Maybe the winner has a special wish...?

I will ship the folder "zipped" via e-mail, without further postal charges.

(sorry for the rough translation, too tired to be more careful)

He continues to ramble about a few things, e.g. mentioning that the folder is Mac OS X compatible (thus making for a perfect OS 9-memorial for non-OS 9-users), and ideal for Windows users since it can reminde them of switching to the Mac OS. :)

Believe it or not, people are actually bidding EUR 10,- for this.

Bah, theres so many dumb ones.

Do you know of the ham sandwich one? Someone tried to sell a ham sandwich through eBay for $4.95, but you had to pay for shipping or something. Don't know much about eBay, but wouldn't it go stale by the time it gets to your door?

Or how about the guy who tried to sell his virginity? (the woman who bid the highest gets to sleep with him  )

Or the guy who tried to put his soul up for auction...........and another who put his wife and kids up for sale......

I can't read German but it looks like people are actually bidding on this!!!

What the hell is going on?

P.S. - that virginity auction sounds kinda funny, which this "new folder" auction is just plain dumb.

I think this guy has a neat sense of humor. Obviously, the people who bid on the New Folder think so, too.

He'll have to pay eBay's fee though.

What makes my Thursday is my paycheque and a case of beer. :)

Personally, I'm a fan of this eBay item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2948761136

Other past personal favorites of mine include the auctioning of the gigantic cheeto, and of course the Milky Way bar that the seller claimed she was selling becuase she didn't want to get fat - the winning bid was $8.50, with another $2 for shipping and $1.30 for insurance.

hey Tequila Grandma, gotta say i love that crusy old bra you linked to.

 :p

and that guy is going to have some problems delivering the virgin folder by his preferred method. that guy that was selling the song from iTunes Store had his auction cancelled because eBay said that it's against their policy to electronically deliver any items. that means no emailing of zipped files.

Well, the folder guy already added a comment that he is going to ship it non-electronically. However, he might still be shut down. The iTunes auction had the same comment added...
