First in short somewhat of an explanation:
The background I found somewhere while surfing through all Apple-sites, So it's not mine (I'm working on one of my own, but since I'm not in front of my beloved mac all day, I have to create something in bits and pieces whenever I've the time to do it)(I'm currently looking if I cannot find a job where I can work on a mac all day instead of this worthless peecee)
Anyway, I thought was so cool I used it in my background, took a picture, and send it to work, so this is how my peecee looks like!!!! This way I get the feeling I'm in front of my Mac.
I really like this thread, because I switch and change my desktop every so often,...
So I thank the guy that designed the picture (thanks man really cool job)
And I'll see if I can finish off mine real quickly so I can post my real mac-desktop:p

I'm loosing IE I guess, I'm running the new omniweb beta, and this thing rocks.
Avatars are more vivid, more detailed. buttons are real aqua style on every site I went too soo far, and these deskpict aaah pure magic:)
And further more it is Cocoa based.
meaning that I can use the services menu where I have been nagging about... :D
Ok, now back to work so I can finish my background

1. That's probably a leopard rather than a cheetah.
2. A jaguar is more or less a new-world leopard. They're very closely related.
3. That picture looks like the X is poking the jaguar in a very uncomfortable way.

hehe, i should be gagged...
A leopard has spots. If you look closely, the black marks on the fur form rings. That's all the proof you should need to know that it's a cheetah.

Well, perhaps you do need stronger glasses, but you've got it backwards to start with. I did Google picture searches to be sure. Cheetahs have small round spots. Leopards are more splotchy, with some of the splotches forming rings. Jaguars (from the pictures I found that were not either cars or obsolete Atari video game systems) apparently tend even more towards rings than do leopards. Cheetahs also tend to have shorter muzzles and rounder heads than leopards.
I stand by my claim that the above kitty is a leopard. :)

Here is mine. I used Dock Lawn and Transparent Dock to get the effect. The I made a background in Photoshop to make the dock lawn blend seamlessly with the background. Check out www.iheartny.com (http://www.iheartny.com/xicons/) for more info on dock lawn.

:) i love it. i had seen the icons at xicons but didnt give it much thought since i have my dock on the right, but your picture has inspired me. i think having a cool lawn dock might be worth the inconvienence of a dock on the bottom (at least for awhile). I just wish he gave us the HLToolBox resource so we didnt have to edit it ourselves. Oh well I'll deal.
any chance you could provide a download of your cloudy background?
oh and the leopard, cheetah, jaguar thing. its not a cheetah (i think you guys resolved that) but you cant really tell if it is a jaguar o a leopard. The spots are too small to tell, but they do look rather jaguarish from these squinted eyes. also the muzzle and musculature fo the body (although rather difficult to tell from the position of the animal) suggest a jaguar identity. perhaps if you gave us a larger picture we could tell. generally it looks like a jaguar but without a better look at the animal its hard to tell.

found it at resexcellence. first time ive used a background that isnt mine in a long time but it looks good with the lawn. o and of cours ei had to add the lawn to the bottom of it in photoshop.
the easiest way to do the lawn is to just make the desktop background and dont bother with most of the icons. due the ones u have in your dock (unless you are one of those psychos with a few dozen item in the dock). it took me awhile to work out but if you start with the background its easy. o and you must use the poo icon for ie, its just too perfect. i dont use ie, but i kept it on this machine just so it could be a pile of excrement.

The first flat panel that came with my iMac had a horrible color shift - Something that was dark gray at the top was nearly white at the bottom. It also had one dead pixel.
Apple replaced it with a new screen. That one still had a slight color shift, but it was so much better I didn't care. Unfortunately, the power light was completely dead. It had three dead pixels.
The techs thought they could fix the power light without replacing the whole screen, but they were wrong. So I am now on screen number 3. But! This one has zero color shift (as it should be) and no dead pixels! Whoo-hoo for my good fortune!
Anyway, with no dead pixels I can use cool desktops like this.

I just looked at the ship again and noticed that there is only one canon, is that part of the story? Or is it just for simplicity?

the ship reminds me of escape from monkey island....
just kinda that style to it....

One captain and two pirates--One cannon
The reason there is only one cannon is because most pirate vessels only had a handul of cannons, unlike Spanish Dragoons which had entire decks of guns. Pirates has a limited budget, and rarely had more than three or four. Plus, I only have one to keep it simple
No its not from Civilization!! I made it!!
It does kind of have a cartoony look to it

There's nothing wrong with a cartoony look, I like it and the ship is a nice bit of modeling, good job.

i like the cartoony look. i think ice age pulled it off brilliantly, and i enjoyed it more than i've enjoyed most 3D movies, aesthetically at least...
agreen... how close up to the ship do we ever get? i'm curious to see how much detail you put into it... it's amazing how much work you save yourself when you plan well enough to know what you don't show, and thus, don't need to model....

Good work. :)

no ill will, It just reminds me of it, especially the angle at which it is viewed and water...I think it looks great!
hey, is there anyway to have a "gif" or changing image to your background? you could have a pool of lava or a volcano, or make he water move and the boat rock or something in the background...surely that's something that could happen?

Most of the film is on the deck of the ship, so I had to put enough detail into to make it look good. I didnt put as much in as Id have liked to because I paid more attention to the characters. This particular shot is from the very beginning of the film, kind of an establishing shot. (the camera swoops in from out of the clouds--you'll see it, give me another week!)

sounds promising. can't wait to see it... that is, can't WAIT to see it! finish it already!
ha.
how many characters are there? did you do totally separate rigs for all or were you able to reuse some parts?
agreenster
May 24, 2002, 10:23 AM
Three human characters and one parrot. I basically used the same riggin for all of the humans, but modified them to fit their bodies. The parrot was a whole seperate system. Wings are really a b!tch.
I technically have the movie done (look on my desktop, the file that says 'pirate movie final.') However, I have some polygonal intersections that I want to fix, some audio levels that need tweaking, etc.
Also, I would like to re-animate some scenes, but I think I may just have to stick with what I have. Its still a student project, and I have enough for a good demo reel.
Mr. Anderson

Well, run it through quicktime and output a low res, say 360x240 15fps and post it somewhere, don't worry about the polygonal intersections, they happen all the time, and even in some of the bigger productions. I saw several in Jimmy Neutron, Monsters Inc. and Toy Story.

I will, I will--I still have my plate full of wedding plans right now. Im hoping ot have the film completely done one week from tomorrow (Sat)
I also saw some juicy errors on Shrek, but are really hard to see. You have to be looking really fast to catch them. Ive only found 2 so far though
