If that problem isn't fixable the computer is probably near worthless for most. 256 MB of RAM is very very low. Have you gotten in touch with Apple? Do the missing screws have something to do with it not recognizing RAM (probably not but...)? Have you tried various RAM chips to make sure it's not the RAM?

i can't imagine very much, unless there is a way to fix the problem. 256 RAM isn't very much at all

I'm not willing to send it to an apple tech and get charged $100 but I have been told by other MR members that only switching the logic board will fix this problem.
and how much would it cost to do that?

Thats the thing, i'm not sure where to pick them up from. a last gen 12" logic board will be $250 on ebay, but I'm not sure it its worth the investment considering the relatively high value of powerbook parts.

how would that cost for apple to fix? will they even fix it?
based on the $250 for the part, and then you gotta fix it (which not the avg. person can do), you might get $200 - $400 for the computer as is.

Thanks twoodcc! I guess i'll hang onto it until montevina then. I can replace the logic board but It's just not worth the cost.

Surprisingly well, i used to have 1.25 gb of ram and the only real difference is that I can't play serious games. Otherwise i can still watch ripped movies and play flash games on safari at the same time w/ no issues switching between the two. So, i don't really mind holding on to it until I can find a good macbook deal.
Edit: It may just be because the 64 MB dedicated vram, i'm not sure.

well if you replaced the logic board, then you might be able to sell it for more. like around $600 - $700, depending on the ram you sell it with

Hey --
Would you be willing to sell one of the batteries on its own? My 12" battery recently has started lasting no longer than 5 minutes... used to last about an hour!
