What software do you use?

As I'm planning to get a Powerbook once they release the next model, I figure it's time I start learning a bit about what software I should get.

I've never had a Mac before, so I'm just wondering, what software does everyone run/love? Just a sampling of your favourite programs or OS X hacks would be fantastic.

I'm also sure most people will agree with me that TransparentDock could do with a much better interface, but oh well. It works, and for that I am grateful.

Just tried transparent dock and it is too cool. I showed my wife, watch this, and ran my mouse over the dock (zoom effect on for maximum coolness). I simply got a "hmmmm".

i only have an old rev. a ibook so premiere, final cut pro, and high end games are out of the question...but if i had high end 14.1 inch ibook or tibook, then i would reconsider

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see so many graphic design packages listed. I wish I was actually into that stuff :)

Taft: How well does XDarwin work? In the PC world, I run a dual-boot Linux/Windows machine, so I'm very interested in running a lot of my Linux software under OS X. Does it simply let you run an X program from the terminal without rebooting the machine? And have you been able to install/run any QT programs with it?

And what ICQ clients do people use? I noticed Kishba saying you used Adium for AIM, but everyone I know is on ICQ. I'm aware that there is an OS X ICQ client, but I haven't heard of anyone using it, or of any adequate competing software.

I'm fairly certain "Fire" supports ICQ (along with the aol network)

i used it once before but since i only use aol instant messenger i didn't keep it when i got a new computer

i'm there are other programs like fire that will work with icq
