View Full Version : Apple Expo Paris Keynote
MacRumors
Sep 15, 2003, 11:55 PM
Apple Expo (http://www.apple-expo.com/uk/index.nclk?home=gp) starts in just a few hours (4AM EDT, 10AM CET, 1AM PDT) in Paris, France.
Apple will not be streaming Steve Jobs' keynote speech live, but historically has provided an archived stream on their website on the following day.
There is still a small chance MacRumors will be able to provide live updates, but this will depend on the availability of the satellite feed.
If you are aware of other sources for live updates, please submit them (http://www.macrumors.com/submit.php3).

not bad at all ! a part from the "du" :)
But it looks like there won't be much exciting coming from the powerbook. Clearly, exciting for me would be only a G5 and according to most this is unlikely for the PB's now.

I have to get up for an 8 am class (EST) so hopefully Apple will have updated the website by then. Though, it doesn't really matter, my 50-day-old TiBook is more than enough for me :)

It probably means nothing, but http://www.apple.com/OrderStatus is down now, even though it worked this afternoon.
My browser's (Mozilla Firebird 0.6) status bars freezes on "waiting for store.apple.com..." for a while, then eventually I get "Server Error: Backend Invalid Response Error."
The rest of the store pages seem to be working.

I think this is such an exciting update because there are a lot of Windozers interested in seeing what's next (after the G5 PMs). So far I think Apple has been pretty successful with their switch campaign, no?
All that aside - I wanna see G5 PBs! And iPod gear!

ive been an ardent dis-believer in a surprise g5 pb update for months now. but since a few days ago, for some reason, my skeptisism has been tweaked hard. its been an eternity for the 15 update, and i think its way outdated - even if only comparing it to apples other models. bringing it up to date with the other "current" models seem very un-apple like. while not an absolute dissappointment, now it would seem like more of a surprise if the updates were minor speed bumps, al chassis, etc. and not a "major" update. but im basing this solely on time. it would "appear" that the engineers, manufactures, etc. have now had enough time to produce, or at least announce a g5 pb lineup. then again, mwsf is what... 5 months away... say it aint so.
patience is a virtue.....patience is a virtue....

its gotta be a g5! Apple wouldn't wait this long to to have a crappy update to the bread and butter of their laptops. I believe they worked on the motherboard concurrently with the desktops, and now (or very very soon) it is ready!

15" 1GHz Powerbooks have been showing 5-7 day waits at AppleStore US for the past 24 hours or so, so that grab from the French(?) AS doesn't mean anything to me. Check the other thread where someone reports an Apple Store in the South has the new low-end 15" w/ 1Ghz.

My story for staying up all Night until 4-5am EST
I am an Artist
a company wanted to do a 16 month calendar using my art and story to give out to clients
as part of my pay I got a 17" PB
I asked them to wait until Sept 20th but they would not
so I got the 17" on Friday with extra ram... the extra ram was bad not my PB is fried... monday morning called Apple Care they are sending me a box later today Tuesday to send it in for Repair...
Talked to the company I did the project with and they are finding out if they should just replace it for me they told me to hold off on sending it to Apple they may want to replace it, they need to get that approved.
If they do want to replace it, I hope I can upgrade to whatever Paris brings this morning.
the 17" PB is the most beautiful thing I've ever had if it was not for the bad ram I would be up waiting to see what the update is but would never trade my baby in. :(

Could be, but there seems to be the possibility of a 12" update too. My sales rep at PC Mall who receives their stock from Ingram Micro has told me that there are very few of all PB's in the pipeline. Also I think this is a posibility because there were no PB's visable at the Apple area in the Expo pics in the previous thread.
Guess we have to wait and see.
2 hours and 30 min to go...

I'm reading new graphics in the AppleStore layout for the Apple Canada web site ---

Can't pick out the difference by eye because I haven't looked since a couple of days ago, but I think maybe the font has changed and I can guarantee that the mistake in the imac/eMac title line didn't used to be there (follow the link above and you'll see that the graphics don't line up right).

The most telling thing from those photos of the expo is that all the portables are covered and guarded... at the least, we're getting *something* on that front....
I'm prepared to be surprised... but in what way? who knows. There were no 'leaks' this time around....
It would fall rather flat if it was simply a minor speed-bump and "aluminization" of the 15"... no, my gut (and my hope!) tells me something else more spectacular is in the works....
Apple has declared the European market a high priority... so to unveil major news there would follow that....
the time is ripe........ ooh, la la! only 90 minutes to go! :)

For the record, Apple WOULD wait this long for just a minor G4 update... or even longer than Apple Expo. They would... if they HAD to. And thanks to Motorola, that may be true.
I do expect new PowerBooks, and I think they'll be great choices. I do NOT expect anything spectacular--except that I'm still very excited about Panther!
I'd love a G5 PB but getting my hopes up would be pointless.
(And realize that even minor updates would still be hidden by black, if they are to be announced by Steve.)

well, like nagromme said (wisely), we shouldn't pointlessly get our hopes up too high...
preventing "dashed hopes, even on good news" syndrome....
Still it's obvious that at least something new is under wraps there...
I've been waiting to see how the new 15" evolves (" 12" is too small, 17" is too big, the 15" is ju-ust right..." -- a modern day Goldilocks?) to decide on going with that, or grabbing a (last remaining?) TiBook... the graphics card will decide a lot of that for me (heard the Nvidia card is lacking)...

Yes! But, hmmmm, it'd have to be maybe 5 or 6 inches thick, but hey, still portable!!! It'd be like a portable with a built-in desk... :)
Moving back in the direction of the original Apple box, complete with handle and bag.....?

I'm quite dissapointed with the Bluetooth mouse, especially. They keyboard is ok though, other than the fact that it's essentially an eMac keyboard. The battery life on both (especially the keyboard) is pretty impressive. I was hoping for at least a 2 button scrolling mouse, but no, Apple won't think different about their mouse for once.
I'll be sticking with my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, and probably keyboard too.

Yeah, the mouse is "crap for crap".
I would jump all over an Apple wireless mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel.
The reason they don't do it- to keep 3rd party manufacturers making products, including mice.

If apple makes a product- It's ussually better (or functions with less headaches) than a third party product. Thats why I would prefer to buy an Apple product.
Take the iPod and iSight as examples.
But your right- third party will always have what we need and it's good to support them as well.
Ordering a 12 with an iPod in a few minutes!
(Also got a 20GB refurb iPod wich should ship this week as well.)

Why? Because theres only one other brand that makes a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard...Microsoft! And there's very little support for it on Macs (the extra buttons don't work). Usually Apple does a better job at these kinds of things, except when it comes to mice and sometimes keyboards.
