Mac Security & Open Ports

Just got back from www.symantec.com

After taking their "Security Check" I noticed that the only open port I've got is my Ping port. I'm no expert, but isn't there a way to close this port? I remember taking the same test in OS 9 and Ping wasn't open.

I've got Norton Internet Security on both the 9 & X partitions. What's up?

shouldn't that port be closed
someone correct me if I'm wrong
but you shouldn't have to worry about viruses
or security on the mac (but its good just to have it anyway)

did you install norton on your machine
if you didi it does more harm than good
just run norton off the CD it doesn't stuff your drive
