I was just wondering what partitioning scheme would be good for my 40gigger. I know there is a thread going on about partitioning but the posts seem to have gone a bit away from the topic so yeah...

it really depends what you are using your machince for. Also, how much you use OSX and OS9. Then of course there's the whole personal preference thing. How organized do you want it? If you look in that thread (I won't link since you've read it) mymemory I believe posted the best scheme that I've seen yet. I'll set my new system up like that as soon as it arrive.....well, after the drooling stops. :D

Hey hey, another fellow Aussie! Welcome.
IMHO, either just put everything on the one drive, or put OS 9 on a small (2GB-ish) partition and put OS X on the rest. Keep the OS 9 system and apps in the 9 drive, and all files and OS X stuff on the X drive.

Another aussie congrads
About partiton thing you should have
2 partions 2gig each for the OS
5gig: scratch partion for photoshop, final cut pro and so on
Apps X : 10 gig
Apps 9: 10 gig
Mp3s: about 8 gig
and documents and any other stuff you have
Me personally
I would have
OS X and apps
OS 9 and apps
MP3s
Shared
but it comes down to personal preference

Are you gonna have a bunch of users? Is that really necessary? I'd go with the three said partitions...but up them to 2GB just in case....you never know...WE had this problem at work and we could'nt upgrade cause there wasnt enough space on the partition.

Ok..i've decided on 2 gigs for the OS's, the rest for the users and the swap...whats the deal with people having 1.5 gig swap partitions? apparently, only 128mb is enough...also, according to my linux sources, osx doesnt use swap partitions the same as linux so it might not be needed straight out. Can anyone help out?

Well, you said you decided but I'm gonna give you the link anyway. http://www.macrumors.com/forums/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=2960&highlight=partition It's about a 4th of the way down the page.
