Apple appears to have posted (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/expo03/) the Apple Expo 2003 Keynote Speech in Quicktime.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs delivered the opening Apple Expo keynote address on Tuesday, September 16 from Palais des Congrès in Paris to almost 6,000 hyped-up Mac users.

The video stream appears to start the discussion about the PowerBooks (well into the Keynote). A full transcript was provided live (http://www.macrumors.com/ae2003.html) on MacRumors on September 16th.

I loved how the crowd went silent when they finally understood that the mouse was only one button. LOL! :D That was really funny! Besides that, it was great to have some RDF pumping one more time! It sure will last until MWSF! :)

steve: we have spend our time getting the new mouse and keyboard ready

crowd: YAH! *applause*

steve: its a one button mouse

crowd: *silence*

steve: The price for both of these are..

crowd: *10 minutes latter* *small applause*

Thought it was amusing when Jobs was introducing the mouse and keyboards:

We didn't want to rush the keyboard and mouse, we wanted to get them right.

Err, Apple didn't do much, they look exactly the same as the previous models...

Throw in Bluetooth stuff and thats it.

The mouse and keyboard were very underwelming for a "Just more last thing" item.

No ****.. someone please give me one good reason to want to buy the apple bluetooth mouse over the Microsoft mouse.. just one. I think the only time apple spent was trying to figure out reason why not to include even a second button. OH WAIT the batteries are in clued I gotta run out and get it then. lol Im sorry I just find it so funny that either someone would buy or apple THINKS people will want to buy the mouse(keyboard I can see maybe but not the mouse) for the price what you can get if you look around for the same price and maybe even cheaper.

What I really cant wait to get a kick out of is when the next keynote comes around and steve says something about the new mouse and that its "been selling like crazy'

What do you expect, it's bluetooth. Much more expensive than plain wireless technologies. The only advantage is the interoperability with other devices.

I'd prefer if they played a different keynote. One where they announce a multi button wireless mouse and everyone cheers.;)

It wasn't bad but seeing panther again wouldn't hurt. It was no WWDC'03

(If you think the above sounds weird, i'm orginally from the UK, though living in Toronto - as you can see from the left, and not heard an American say "Jaguar", that is, apart from SJ!)

Since watching the stream, I feel the paris expo was disappointing. Sure it's great news for powerbook fans, but there really wasn't much else to it. All this waiting and talking for really not much. It was kind of embarrassing when Steve said "I have one more thing" and all he did was introduce cordless keyboard & mouse. Big deal. It was sad when the crowd barely made a peep with the announcement, especially when it came to the price.

For $138, i'd rather have the cords. At least that way my mouse won't get lost under my papers on my desk or get accidently knocked over in my trash bin.

if they want 50% or more of their sales to be laptops, then they have to concentrate on the home users. Let's see if they can pull off a 17 inch iBook.

I use an eMac and I love the 17 inch screen. I will never go back to anything smaller, even for a laptop. If they want me to buy a laptop then they have to increase the screen size of the iBook.

Yep - someone else said this too.

Apple Expo (France) hasn't been a very big expo traditionally. I don't think they released any hardware last year.

MacWorld Expo is another situation altogether.

Actually, I have heard it pronounced TO-shiba (kinda rhymes with Yoshi) -- from Toshiba themselves, in one of those self-congratulating DVD demo discs that was advertising a Toshiba widescreen TV (or DVD player, I don't remember).

I would put a high confidence in saying that's how it is properly pronounced, but everyone in North America just uses the "Americanized" version -- To-SHI-ba...

Much like we say wa-SA-bi when apparently it's supposed to be pronounced WAH-sabi.

I hate streaming with a passion! 'cos you need a fat pipe (not the smoking type ;o) - I'd rather d/l it first and watch it at the comfort of not having to be online just to watch some low quality, super-small, jumpy QT - they might as well not post it!

Unless someone knows where I can find the downloadable version somewhere...

How does Steve say "Jaguar"? Most Americans I know say "JAG-wahr" but I've heard some people say "jag-WIRE". Most Brits I've heard use the word say "JAG-u-ah".

I think Steve is pronouncing the Jaguar / Jagwire word wrong on purpose.
I remember a discussion that the name "Jaguar" may not be used in commercial sense, as the car brand Jaguar uses it. This seems somekind of European thing. Im no lawyer or anything, but the reason for Steve to say "Jag-wire" is just not to run in any trouble.

well, I've always said Jag-u-arh (in Australia). But my dictionary here says it's Ja'guar or Ja'gwar.

Steve definitely sounds like he's saying Jagwire. I too thought that must be how americans say it. Is it?

We should have this worked out in time for panther to come out.

I know this isn't really a linguistics thread but technically correct japanese punctuation has no stresses on individual syllables in a word.

it's not TOshiba or toSHIba. it's toshiba.

Sony of course is the wierd one. I don't think even they know how to pronounce it.

Tokyo is a good example though. In english is reads as 'Toe-key-o' whereas in japanese it's flat and monotone with two extended sylabbles. kind of like 'torr--kyorr'.

In the keynote, Jobs says the 12" pBook is available Today. Most news reports, however, indicated that the 12"ers would be released later this month. The Apple Store says "Available today" for the 15" and 17", but not the 12". Does anybody know the reason for the discrepancy? Is there any reliable information on when the 12s will hit the stores?

The stream is just broken for me. Is anyone else having a problem with it?

Also, Steve says a lot of things in his own weird way. During the Jaguar presentation, he said the word "automatically" many times, and pronounced it odo-matically every time. Where did he get that sillyness?

Jobs pointed out that the prices are the same in euros -- and even lower for the 15" SuperDrive. However, it is simply not true! The 15" SD is $2599, Jobs announces it at €2499, and the German Apple Store sells it at €2898,84. Huh? That is four hundred euros more -- not quite a "minor mistake" or something.

And don't tell me the prices Jobs quotes are the prices for France. In the French Apple Store, they sell it for €2988,80.

Update: D'oh! He is talking about the prices without GST! €2499 + 16% GST (Germany) = €2898,84. This might be normal for you US guys, but for Germany, nobody ever mentions prices without GST (unless they're targetting resellers or companies). In fact, it is illegal to advertise product prices that don't include GST...

I ordered mine the day of the release from MacMall. It's on Back Order. Who knows when I'll see it. I have next day shipping on it, so I'll be one of the first ones to know that Apple been fullfilling them to their supply chain.

Steve's a liar! The Apple store in Seattle, doesn't even have one on display yet. ;(

"Jag-whar" is the cat.

"Jag-you-are" is the overpriced Ford.

"Jagwire" is the operating system.

Hope this cleared it up for everyone.

And the way Steve pronounces "automatically" is actually superior in my opinion...he pronounces the "au" the same as one would pronounce the "au" in "Audi", and also the same war the Germans. Then again, Steve was at one time a heavy LSD user :)

Does your mouse already get buried under papers, requiring you to fish it out by the cord.

It *doesn't*!?

Then you'll have no problem with a wireless mouse.

I certainly have no problem with it.

Well i finally got one of the computers inmy house to play the keynote. odd, it would not work on my moms g4 or my sister IBM but it worked on my dads old performa 6300, that kinda suked. anyways when i watched it i got outragously excited even though i knew what he was going to anounce. i really liked how te thinnes of the apple 17incher compared to the toshiba and hp. i do wish that the whole keynote was available though.i kind of felt bad for steve when the audience gave him the pity applause but if he would just get a friggin multi button mouse then that would have gone better.i'm just really ecxited about the new 15incher, cant wait t'ill my reseller has them in stock
