I would like to get my younger cousins and younger brother iBooks because I am sick of being called up to fix their Windows machines every few days.
How much would it run me to get an iBook G4. 12" is fine. Combo drive is fine. Has to be fully working. Cosmetics not a problem. Preferably 10.4, but 10.3 is fine, too.
Opinions? thanks

I've been buyin and modding and looking for cheap working ibooks for the last month. For a working g4 you are looking at approx 450 dollars. You won't find them much cheaper then that.... and those will be the 1-1.2ghz, a 1.5 will be closer to 600 or so...forums, craigslist and ebay... all about the same.
You may be able to find 14inchers actually cheaper then that because the 12inchs are a more demanded size as of right now, but I haven't really done too much research in the the 14inchers because I have been looking for the 12s

350-400 is about the low range for iBook G4s, the last models and 14" models will probably be up to 700 (with superdrives).
High end iBook G3s are still great options if Leopard is not in the cards. I have a 700MHz iBook running 10.3.9 like a champ and it's incredibly fast for it's age. A 900MHz G3 iBook might be a nice secondary option to seek if you can't find a cheap enough G4 option.

I've just bought a MBP I'd sell you my powerbook 12" last gen for a reasonable price but it largely depends on how far i'd have to ship it.

I have a 1ghz 768mb PB 12" and it is really lagging - even when starting up an avi movie in VLC. It's sad. I don't expect it to run Final Cut, but to watch the rainbow wheel of death for a few minutes a day over various things is well, annoying. Especially when you think you may lose all your data.

Just picked up a 1Ghz/512MB/AP 12" G4 for $300 on eBay. I would just keep doing searches for BIN auctions by price, since sometimes underpriced iBooks show up you can grab for cheap.

You need to spring for a one gig ram chip and upgrade to a 7200 hd or a hd with a 16mb cache. I'm on a 1.5ghz powerbook maxed out and few beachballs. Surprisingly, Word slows her down the most.
