Sorry for the thread jack but I'm thinking there must be some sort of defect with the construction of these PowerBooks. Mine has the same "bulge" in the metal above the optical drive slot. I'd post a picture but that wasn't really the reason for the post.

To prospective buyers I wouldn't call this damage seems to be the norm.

I'll even say that I've seen this on other models than the 12" iBook...nothing unusual. Must be a weak point in the case.
