I'm thinking of buying an external monitor to connect to my macbook. As you all know, macbooks don't come with the mini-dvi to dvi adaptor so I'm hoping someone who has one they aren't using will sell me theirs for cheap. I believe the price on Apple is 17.90(student) + shipping. There's a chance I may need a mini-dvi to vga depending on the monitor. By the way, does anyone have any monitor recommendations? 22"?

Radio Shack sometimes has the miniDVI->DVI adapters for a few bucks cheaper than Apple, but not very often.

As for the monitor, unless you are wanting to go for a 22" display with a resolution of 1920x1200 (like the 23" ACD), I'd go with a 20", since it will have the same resolution (1680x1050), but a higer pixel density, which means the 20" will look nicer. I bought an Acer AL2223W, a 22" display at 1680x1050, and I really should have gone with the 20" with the same res.. They just look so much nicer.

Don't get me wrong, I love my screen, and I'm not going to replace it over the fact that the 20" ones look nicer. It's just a fact to ponder while you're looking for a new one.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any 20" screens to recommend? I was going to buy from Amazon and most of their screens are 22", 19", or 24".

Unless you are over forty, in which case you will very much prefer the larger size of the 22" display.

I have a brand new one still in the packaging from Apple. I bought it when I got the powerbook, thinking I could use it with a CRT I had, but it turned out the CRT was in fact VGA.

Anyway, just pm your adress and I can estimate a price. I am thinking $10 + shipping, or about $15 depending on the price of shipping.

If price is no issue, go with the 20" ACD. Otherwise, give me a range and I'll look around.

I was thinking either one of the following:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000OK2X6K/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000N5WNKM/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

I'm trying to keep the price under 250.
