Not to be a grouch, but what exactly does "(close to being) sold" mean?

Do you mean "Sold, pending payment?"

Or "Sold, but if you want to pony up a few more dollars I'll sell it to you?"

Twice in the last 18 hours I got shafted by sellers who backed out of deals so
I don't think that ambiguous language helps anyone.
