Today's Category : The Early Years
I've decided to run 5 polls over the next couple of weeks. You will be able to vote on what you think is the most important Apple product in each category. Eventually I will take the highest ranking items in each poll and make a final poll. The one who wins the last poll will win the title of Greatest Apple Product of All Time. Any way, vote so we can find out.

I never worked on an AppleII, so I'm no help here. I'll come back and vote in the other polls. Good idea.
But you never voted for one yourself....

I voted apple II becasue it was the first computer I ever used, and I loved it. When I was in 5th grade(making the Apple II about 9 years old) I would still play games on it. It was that good. It never stopped working! Oregon Trail on the Apple II is something you have to try!

I remember the Apple 2 very well I used to program on the Apple 2 all the time I could make that 2 do anything I wanted.
PRINT "LIVE LONG AND PROSPER"
LOOP LINE 1
Or something like that.. I forget, Macintosh spoiled me.

I'm with Eye. If it werent for the Apple I then there wouldnt have been the Apple II or any others..its by far the most important in the grand scheme of things. It started the entire home PC Industry.

apple II, II+, IIc, and IIe revolutionized the computer industry in a BIG way...before that, there was no such thing as a super widely distributed personal home and small business computer
as for being the best of all time, i don't know, i am torn between several models, but i will certainly say that it is the most important computer of all time for apple or anybody else involved since the pc world copied the apple II family and unfortunately, were the ones to ultimately cash in on the personal computer design spearheaded by steve wozniak
i hate the fact that ibm copyrighted or patented (or whatever) or the term personal computer because apple beat ibm to the punch but ibm were the smart business ones

I also agree with eye. Even though i've never used an Apple I i consider it the one that started it all. I may end up with more then 5 polls, Im now thinking 7.

It'd have to be the Apple ][. It was the one that really propelled Apple into being successful.

those were good times indeed.
my roommate (who has a pc) recently found an old version of oregon trail online that he got working... it was like a generation newer than the ones we (he and i) remembered but it was still cheesy and blocky, but great! he found mac versions, but i couldn't get them to work. i did see that they have a "new" version for mac and it's got all sorts of crazy 3D stuff and whatnot. seems funny, but the old school colors were classic

It was more widely owned and a better seller. Many of my friends owned Apple ]['s, the schools in the district had them, and they spawned other similar computers like the ][c (color version, I think). Also, I'm not sure I've ever seen an Apple I.
To me the Apple experience began with Apple ][s and they will foreve be etched into my mind. My anecdotal evidence suggests others feel the same and the Apple boom really started with Apple ][.

Since there seems to be some confusion about which Apple II is which here is a breif description:
Apple II - Basic Apple II
Apple IIc -Compact Apple II
Apple II+ -High end Apple II
Apple IIgs - Apple II Graphics/Sound Edition

Since you merged the threads can you give this thread the original name of "Greatest Apple Product of All Time #1" I cant seem to change the name back and this name is just plain confusing.
Anyway the terms you base this on is entirely up to the voter.

IMHO, it is the IIe, but I think I am biased since it was my first computer. I recently went home to my parents where the IIe has lived in my closet for the past 10+ years, and couldn't get their PC to work with my old MIDI keyboard (okay, I was bored) but I pulled out the IIe, found the right floppies, and I was in sequencing like a champ in a few minutes. Pretty scary config in my IIe
Apple IIe 128k
DuoDisk
4MB RAM (yea, read that 4! MB)
MIDI Interface
Parallel printer interface
Mockingboard (sound and speach synth)
SCSI card hooked up to a 5GB full height drive from an old Applie III (couldn't get that fired up though)
Ahh the good old days... IIe and ProDOS ;)

The ][ rocked. I've seen the I, but it wasn't all that useful or available. I had the original ][ and the ][+ and a ][e, but it wasn't until the ][ that I realized just how neat computers could be.
