So what words (in any language) do you think are funny? Have you ever laughed out when hearing that word?

For me, I would have to say 'bosom', even without it's definition, I find the word hilarious. Today, my teacher was reading something with the word 'bosom', and when he said it I almost choked trying to keep myself from laughing.

I fear this thread won't last very long, but FWIW I like 'Bungalow'

It isn't really a laugh out loud kind of thing, but I really think the word 'titivate' has tremendous comic potential. :)

I've always thought that soutien-gorge (French for brassière) was pretty funny. The French académie has such a strong desire to re-use old words rather than invent new ones, and this particular example has always struck me as funny. Soutien-gorge literally means "breast support".

When I was a kid I thought 'Titicaca' (as in the lake in Peru) was a pretty hilarious word. Life was simpler then:
Private body part + bodily excrement = funny

From this post forward, could those posting their funniest words also provide a definition! You guys are too smart for me :D

There are a heap of Japanese words I find amusing due to the pronunciation but one of my favorites is 'Futakatamagawa' - a location just outside Tokyo

I also like the English word 'Dodecahedron' - a twelve-sided shape

Pontificate (http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Apontificate+&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1)What it actually means, of course, is to build a bridge.

Or, alternatively, to speak in the manner of a Pontiff (the alleged "bridgemaker" between Man and God), confident in your own infallibility.

Try using the word "pianist" in a lecture to undergraduates and you'll get laughs. This is more a reflection on the audience than on the inherent humor in this word
