This thread will serve as the area to submit one's photos, for the month of october.

In case you havent read 8 pages of 'photography', post your photo for this months given theme, where eventually a panel of judges [from this site] will review them.

RULES:
1. must be a new photo
2. must relate to topic
3. post it in this thread only
4. Must relate to the theme 'spooky'
5. Prize and/or incentive to be determined
6. Only submit one photo per month
7. Be nice.

Mr. Anderson
Oct 8, 2003, 10:31 PM
ah, tazo - what happened to the other thread with several pages of posts?

D

I dunno

ColoJohnBoy
Oct 8, 2003, 11:18 PM
I'm baffled...... what's the theme for this month? Panther? What kind of photos are we talking about? Why do monkeys throw poo? Why does that kitty look like kibbles?

And so on....

tazo
Oct 8, 2003, 11:21 PM
the theme for this month is supposed to be 'spooky' and this thread is supposed to be just for submitting photos..but i digress

Power of a demi-god.
If you delete the first post in a thread, evey other one goes with it.

Click edit on a post and read what it says next to "Delete?".

Note: deleting this post will result in the deletion of the entire thread if this post is the first post in the thread.

Mr. Anderson
Oct 9, 2003, 05:49 AM
As had been discussed in the previous thread - using a single thread to post pics is not the way to go here. It will be too much of a mess and too difficult to view all the images if they come in between discussions of previous ones.....

And don't delete anymore of your posts.

sure, if its just your post...but tazo did something stupid - he deleted his post, which was the first post in the thread that ended up deleting over 100 other posts, including discussion on logistics and planning for the contest. Not good and you have to realize why you shouldn't do it.

I should have said *don't delete any first posts in a thread*

As a moderator could you bring the thread back? At least now we know not to delete the first post in a thread. The warning is appreciated. I have only done a delete post when I accidentally caused a duplicate.

i think that's the problem.... that because the one post was deleted (ie, erased entirely), the entire thread was.... it's not as though it were sent to the wasteland or something

it's just gone.

As for photosubmissions only, no, that's not possible.

in the old days, everyone had the ability to delete their own thread, and some got mad if they lost fifty posts on that one thread, but then again, how important could those fifty lost posts from one poster on one thread be?

i wish we still had the power to delete a thread we started because often one starts an honest thread, and other posters get nasty with it and hijack the thread...i am glad that the political threads do not count as posts though and some posters here on the rest of macrumors avoid the political section or have two different identities like desertrat or others

i used to also be networkman also but didn't use that other membership for anything special so i don't use it anymore:p

Please, don't even get me started here. There was a lot of discussion on the concept, which was good - and in the end it is not *your* responsibility to determine if a thread needs to be deleted or not. Sure threads get sidetracked (this is the community), but the discussion was valid and set up a lot of what we're planning to implement - now its all gone.

Jef - I think one of the reasons deleting posts/threads was taken away was for this reason - it gets abused or mistakenly removed and it just caused issues.

Did you make that? It's quite good. Just a technical tip if you did make it. Most subs only have 4-6 blades on the prop.

Well the sub is somebody else's model, but I'm playing with it, before I read your post, I had just removed the propellers. The lighting is what I was trying to get to look good, I just threw a random submarine model I found in there. Now I'm thinking of making a 5-10 second animation of the sub moving through the water with little bubbles coming off the propeller.

Bubbles off the prop, cavitation is very very bad on a sub that's the primary way any propeller driven vehicle is detected in the water. It creates quite a bit of noise. Modern subs are designed to move through the water without making any noise including the prop.

It'll make for a cool video though. I definitely would like to see it when you are done or mostly done with it.

You might want to just try making a fun little animation with your own sub - there's a lot of good stuff for underwater out there - a robotic submersible is even better, cause you can use lights ;)

I was wondering how far this was going to go.

I thought the subject had been dropped last week but all of a sudden it was raging again. It doesn't matter who is wrong or right what is done is done. We all learned from it and that is what counts.

Can't we all just get along.;) :p

Okay I figured out how we can do this Photo thread. One of the mods can create a thread with the rules and the instructions on entering in the first post. Then that mod closes the thread.

To enter your image in the thread you will PM the mod or mods listed in the instructions with the link to your photo and the description. The mod/mods can then simple create a new post in the closed thread with the linked image and the description. This will prevent the spam and off topic posts and will keep the thread what it suppose to be, a contest thread.

I agree we all need to just get along - and I have no problem with that. Discussion is good, removing things you don't agree with is not right. You can slam me all you want and I'll stand my ground. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. Play nice and let the mods worry about what should and shouldn't be posted.

Cheap is deleting a whole thread you started because it starts to go OT.

I don't even understand what you're trying to say in the rest of your post.

I went through my iPhoto library and chose my favourite pictures.. I have about 15 to show off! (Although they probably looked better in iPhoto)

Each picture was taken with my digital camera and with very little, if any, modification.

Because of bandwidth concerns, I have made them available on my webserver, but will not post them directly.

Check them out! (http://achkara.ath.cx:82/macrumors/)

Further issues on this subject and your concerns about my actions here should be handled outside of the threads - pm me with your concerns.

You have a track record that has been prone to requiring moderator intervention before, this fiasco only furthers that.

As for going OT - per the rules the Community Forum is lax in that regard - as you know and allows for a wider range of discussion beyond the thread topic.

In this case, serious posts were deleted, several involving the moderators discussions with other individuals in setting up a Photo thread/forum. This was important to the topic of the thread, the same topic of this thread, btw.

And as I recall, I had posted saying that no single thread for image posting would be viable for a contest, very few people would want to search through 100 posts looking for images among the comments on the shots themselves. Others agreed, and it had been put forward to let the mods figure out the solution.

We're doing that - but you went ahead and deleted the thread, starting over by posting your *rules*, too impatient to wait for us to get things set up.

There will be a place set aside for, as Wes said, a potentially cool thread. As a photographer, I look forward to contributing my pics and comments as well. Setting up something like this needs to be done correctly and until we get everything put together I think it best to move on to better and more constructive discussions.

Thank you,

D

Sorry but your wrong. If you had been reading and not just ranting you would know that the mods are working on an official image page so that we can do this right. Until then this whole contest can't work.

I really can't wait for this thing to get going myself but it just won't work with a regular thread.

tazo, you should try to take some slow deep breaths. Try to close your eyes to relax some. If you are having difficulities, the best approach is to always approach it directly. Try to PM the person or persons involved. Holding thoughts in only frester an grow.
