so i had this dream last night where i went to a big MacRumors picnic -- "meet the face behind the 'tar" and whatnot -- and i decided to get enterprising and start charging a small fee to serve as a one-man valet service, parking cars. then i got a $700 ticket for breaking every traffic law you can possibly break within a parking lot.
just thought i'd share.

everyone was using their real names, so unless i'm psychic or very lucky, i don't think any MR names were used.
but it is odd that yesterday i posted something in the black amex card thread about millionaires and their valets.
anyone out there drive a big red winnebago? other salient details for you to analyze: there were chocolate donuts; and i skipped town without going to court or paying the ticket.

mmm, chocolate caked donuts... were they glazed?
sonofslim

of course they were glazed! my subconscious isn't so odd as to leave the glaze off my brain-donuts.
i know someone introduced themselves with their handle... i just can't remember who it was!

er... no, sorry, i'm confusing the movies with my dreams again. must stop eating donuts before bedtime.

After watching Ferris Bueller, the dreams of violating a car in the valet lot, does seem worthwhile.

I like this idea -- one ticket with a violate-in-bulk rate for the volume offender.
"Avoid the hassle of hundreds of court appearances with our new Not-A-Single-Car-In-The-Lines Special! For $699 plus a one-time $1 membership fee you too can park like that:

the way they've been aggressively ticketing here in NYC, i'm not surprised they haven't done something like that already! or started selling indulgences -- pay up front, and they look the other way the next time you're parked too close to a hydrant. or pay even more, and they look the other way when you take a golf club to the SUV some jerk parked across 3 spots.

Of pay even-even more and they might actually chase, and ticket that cabby that's been carrying you at warp 14 down 7th avenue.

They do, in fact, do that -- but it's a sticker that you get if you have a friend who's a cop.
As for the speeding cabs, I think that's a symptom of the wacky medallion system we have. Cab fares are regulated and haven't been raised since 1996, prompting a recent study that found that 2/3 of cab drivers are currently behind in a significant obligation (rent, phone bill, etc.). The flag-falls are where they make all their money, hence the gang-busters lead foot to get you to your destination.
If you're not sure that the medallion system is weird (no opinion on whether it's wrong), just consider:
Last time I checked, selling price at open auction of a seat on the NYSE: about $250k
Last time I checked, selling price of a taxi medallion: about $250k
That's unusual, me thinks!

interestingly enough, there are varying levels of that: i have several friends who are related to cops or state troopers, and the direct family members don't bother with stickers -- they all carry special cards in their wallets.
so maybe the sticker gets you out of a beating, but if you've got a card, the cops invite you into the cruiser for donuts? who knows...
as for the medallion system, until they start issuing new medallions instead of just circulating the existing ones, demand is always going to exceed supply, and we'll always have gypsy cabs and dollar vans.

speaking of doughnuts and cops, i hate seeing overweight policemen. how can you protect me when you weigh 350 pounds? some cops i have seen would get fatigued just writing parking tickets for an hour...
fortunately, all my run-ins with the police have involved healthy officers. when we called the police when i got in a wreck a few weeks ago, the policewoman that came to work it out was actually a hot blonde... heh.

LOL! That's great -- talk about beating a rap!
And shadowfax, some people (not all criminals and punks) believe that NYC cops don't really "protect" in the dictionary sense of the word. They show up after the incident and write everything down so that you can mail it to your insurance company/tort lawyer/funeral home. If that's your gig, you can be a blob. Nice to hear that your experience is better.

I've been having a lot of dreams about the apocalypse and insanely vast biblical wars, no thanks to my Scriptures of the Apocalypse, Four Gospels, and Jesus the Christ classes this semester. It makes for some interesting dreams and lots of mornings of waking up screaming, that's for sure.

when i quit smoking? forget it. i wore the nicotine patch, and one of the possible side effects listed in the packaging is "vivid dreams." i've since spoken with other people who have done the patch, and NO ONE leaves it on while they sleep after a week or so.
by "vivid" they actually mean "lifelike, unthinkably violent and bloody dreams that will wake you, shaking and whimpering like a puppy." seriously -- everyone i've ever spoken to who's had these nicotine dreams agrees that they are, without exception, graphically violent and disturbing.
which is interesting from a psychological standpoint, but just no fun to actually experience.

Last week I had a dream where I went into the kitchen to get something and I reached over a can of Folgers coffee, which appeared to have been haunted by some sort of malicious entity which ended up with me waking up screaming bloody murder while nearly falling out of my bed into a ball. Maybe it's the stress of all my classes getting to me...I mean, really, a haunted can of coffee?

According to Judaic tradition, the Messiah will ride to the place of his death, after his death, on a donkey.
I think you're predicted it. I'm the Messiah, and I'm going to die, then they're gonna have the MacRumors convention there, and that's when I'll return.
