It's good that this thing was nipped in the bud.
I'm surprised (given your strong reputation here) that you had sent the item first.

I have done trades many times, people always have sent me items first, and I always sent everything out on time, but I gave him the trust..... I did not lose anything but be careful
I took a chance and was wrong.....

Are you positive he didn't send it? I don't think you can go by what the tracking says - Many times I've ordered something and had the tracking not update until it has actually been delivered. I think it comes down to the difference between delivery confirmation (which shows only when something has been scanned as 'delivered') and tracking. I've had sellers confuse the two.
On the other hand, it does look bad that he didn't answer your PMs. Hoping for the best, though.

If it show I have no problems saying I was wrong..but did you notice he said he sent it on sat, but the postage was made sunday???

I guess I missed that the first time I read through the PM. Looks like you're better off dealing with another member anyway. Too bad about the wasted time/aggravation. Hope you find another suitable unlocked iPhone soon!

If I were you I'd watch for it, if it comes then send it out :). No harm done, but I can DEFINITELY agree with you, better safe than sorry.

Very odd indeed. Hope things work out though! I love the trust that exists in this marketplace and don't want to see anyone violate that...

The "Tracking" of USPS is not the same as UPS or FedEx. With them, everything has to be scanned in and is tracked the entire way.
My experience with USPS is that with online generated shipping it is just "Delivery Confirmation". If it is dropped into a mailbox it will not be scanned into the system. I have given it to my mail carrier and he always scans it in, but he is a nice guy.
I have gone to a Post Office to drop it off a package and the lady was just going to just dump it into the bin without scanning it in. I asked her to scan it in. Instead she put it on the scale and said it was more than what my scale said. Made me pay extra before she would accept it and scan it in. Talk about attitude/bitch.
Anyway, it is "possible" that it was sent, but under your circumstances it doesn't seem likely.

If I remember correctly the USPS has two products, one called "delivery confirmation" that you refer to and a tracking system similar to UPS; they are separate and must be asked for when shipping a package (they cost extra).

Which is why I want heatware (or something similar) more stressed here.
If someone has very low / no heat I simply won't ship first (On forums that use it like *cough* hardforum *cough*. Mac users by nature should be more honest then pc users (:p) but you have bad apples everywhere

Not to question you or anything, but the same thing happened to me this weekend.
Saturday I was expecting a Mini, I checked online with the number he provided. It said "electronic information received", like he didn't mail it. But sure enough it arrived that afternoon only after I sent him a WTF email.
Eh, its the post office. You're just happy they if they don't steal your birthday cards.

Noooo! Some of us have low post count, but are very reputable sellers. :)
As for USPS, they're always slow. I make it a habit to check the tracking number on an package even after I have shipped it. I give the buyer an ETA and then send out an email after they have received the package to make sure it wasn't damaged.
But hey, that's just me.

Exactly! Whenever I post an item up for sale, I make sure to link my Heatware and eBay references.

i've already bought and sold on this site but was wondering what "heatware" is? i always just provide a link to my ebay id(same name everywhere btw)
also i'm a mod on another forum with 50k+ members and i love how they have a B/S/T rating under your avatars so everyone can see your feedback and link to your buys/sales/trades. i think that feature should be incorporated into this site? here's a link to see what i mean http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100634
i'm glad you didn't get shafted CB! very smart move to hold your package.

you can still post in existing threads in the marketplace if you have less then 100 posts, you just can't start a new one.

No. I mail USPS all the time, and everytime I ship something on saturday, the tracking will always show as "Electronic info received next business day" .. it does that most of the time.
I don't think you should panic or give up on this.. it was barely mailed out (if it was) You will know by Thursday or Friday .. max.. if nothing shows up, then he didn't mail it out. There have been multiple times when my customers have received their packages and signed for it.. and the stupid online system will barely say that it reached their post office (60% of time, doesn't even show if anyone signed for it!)
Their tracking sucks, but their speed is great - packages almost always get delivered in 2 days.

When he printed it out, he did it with Delivery Confirmation.
This service is *not* meant to be a complete tracking service! Rarely it is scanned enroute to the destination, the purpose of this service is to confirm to the seller that the package was delivered-- so they have evidence if the buyer claims it was not.
USPS does have a full on tracking service, but it is much more expensive than the 55 cent DC, and with priority mail it is hardly necessary.
Thanks for the warning, but I'd wait a couple more days before we really nail this guy. Perhaps it was mailed first class instead of Priority (a mistake I've made before when I shipped my Dual G4 MDD)... it can be quite a discrepency in time between those two services.
Keep us posted please!
Edit: Whoops! Sorry... I saw this was explained above. In any case weekends get kindof finnicky with the delivery confirmation status. I've shipped things out on Saturdays, and the DC number did not work until Tuesday-- when the item was finally delivered. If nothing shows up by Thursday then look into it further.

Post whores can be just as dishonest too you know!
Gypsy, to be honest it sounds like he printed the label Sunday and you posted this on Monday. Does he not get a chance to send? Even though he may have had to send it a week ago, perhaps he got busy during business hours and ended up forgetting or whatever. He then remembered and printed the label to ship on Monday or Tuesday, which is yesterday and today. Or did I miss something? I want to say I dealt with him before but I cannot recall.

The inadequacies of Delivery Confirmation doesn't explain why the guy doesn't simply respond to pms/emails. Especially when he has logged on to the forum.
BTW, pointing the guy out helps but only a little. The person could always create another MR account. He got to 100 posts before, he can again.

So until this resolved, or not, between both parties... I'm closing this thread for now.
The MacRumors Marketplace does not offer a buyer protection program, nor does it have a reputation system; it operates solely on the honour system, so it behooves both parties in any given transaction to take the utmost caution in their transactions where possible...
I'm asking the OP to contact me directly, and we'll see what we can do, rather than permitting a potentially-slanderous thread to continue without the full details being known.
Thank you.
