View Full Version : have you met any of the MR members?

mrjamin

here's the question: have you met any macrumors members? By met i mean in person, face to face? If so, who, and were they what you expected?? No nastiness please...

As for me, the only person on the boards i know in person is anneleonard, and thats purely because she's my girlfriend (we met long before either of us started posting on here btw) so i guess she doesn't really count.

no, I haven't and I dont think I'd like to.

Im shy and it would just be really wierd and uncomfortable.

ibookin' definately, since he's my boyfriend.
I might have seen Doctor Q, i've definately seen pics of him and we don't live that far away from each other, but yeah i really havent personally met him

I've also met Mercury, since he's my boyfriend's friend, and then of course there are a whole bunch of lurkers. Yeah.

I'm like Keyser Soze (http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=8740); people claim to have seen me but there's no actual proof!

Actually, four members know what I look like, but all are sworn to secrecy. I like being mysterious. In fact, eventually, after I've met all 18,889 MacRumors members personally, I'll still have them all sworn to secrecy.

mrjamin - are you saying that you knew anneleonard before either of you started posting here... and then you both started posting but didn't know the other person was posting, and then found out? if that makes sense...

i've never met any MacRumors people, and i don't know if there's all that many in Brisbane. there's definitely a few in Melbourne and Sydney.

i guess it'd be okay if i met someone at an Apple store or something, but i don't think i'd go out of my way to meet someone.

this is really kind of cheating...

But I serve on this committee (actually I chair it) that my friend also serves on. I actually met him through the committee.

He had his PB out the other day and that's when I found out he was a Mac person. We started talking about rumor sites, and he mentioned how he liked spymac, I think, because everyone there was so stupid. I mentioned that I liked MacRumors, for reasons that were quite the opposite. Well, he also mentioned that he always used the same handle, so I searched the member database here and discovered that he was actually a member of MR.

It's cheating because I didn't meet him after meeting him on MacRumors. It's also cheating because he's only posted 8 times.

I haven't met anyone from the internet, so I don't know how freaky insane that would be. I just saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre last night, so perhaps my perception is a bit off...

There are a few people I would like to meet, notably those in the Pacific Northwest... unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the Portland Apple Store opening... :(

Maybe we should have a Geekfest Northwest. Go to the Krispy Kreme in Portland, grab beers afterwards (when I'm 21, of course). We could go to McMennamin's!

well in a roundabout way, billicus, i went to high school with him, didn't know him too well but then i ran into him here :) and i have the feeling that a lot of people i know are reading these boards, i suspect an old friend of mine posts occasionally...

but none that i knew on MR first, then met. living in the middle of iowa kind of isolates you from casually running into people like this...

I could meet some MR users like mc68k and rower_cpu, but I try to keep a low profile as far as these things are concerned. Im pretty wary of meeting people from the internet, though. Being 15 and all, us youngins tend to think of ourselves as adults when we indeed have much growing up to do and usually end up getting bailed out of situations by our parents.

The London geekfest crew appear to be heading for several clandestine appointments, not just the Expo, but another session in the Bar with No Name I believe, certainly iGav and myself will be there, along with Britboy (if he's got a new suit to show us) and Caveman UK, all others welcome. Date is pending.

I've also met Jelloshotsrule and Gelbin when they came to the UK for a marathon supermarket sleepover earlier in the year.

Yeah, I'm from the T-dot, so I get it. ;)

How did you all meet each other? By chance? If you ran into each other at an Apple store event, how would you know? Did you all plan a "meet-and-greet" or something? I'd feel uncomfortable meeting MR members because you're all from the net, and because nobody would want to meet me, but as long as you promise not to kill me, I guess it would be okay.

Too bad we don't have an Apple Store in Toronto (yet!!), but one day......oh yes......one day we'll meet, and then we'll fight for the title for Supreme Mac'er of the GTA.

I haven't met any from here, just my friend who's on here that got me into macs, other than that i've only seen one person from connecticut post on here anyway.

But if any of you have been in #macrumors and seen tazo's pictures of one of the apple stores opening, and seen some of the weirdos (some creepy weird asian kid, some kid that looked right out of the 70's, and some kid who's haircut looked rather..ahem...phallic) stand out in my mind. and if you'd seen those pictures, you'd defiantely not want to meet anyone either :)

hopefully tazo can repost some of the better people.

Sounds like another Doctor Q project: to make a hypertext network map showing which members have met which other members, so we could all play "six degrees of separation". Too bad Kevin Bacon isn't a MacRumors member. Of course, maybe he is!

G5, I couldn't agree with you more. Kevin is a good actor, but I too find it odd that he gets stripped down in all (maybe not all but 90%) of the films he's in. :( It must be something he puts in his contract. It either really narcissistic of him, or he feels he has to show his ass to get some work....
