Hey -

I thought I'd use this powerbook more often when I bought it. It is about 2 years old, but it is in nearly brand new condition. It probably hasn't been used more than 50 times, because I use my other computers a lot more than this one...

However - it is still a great computer. It's got 1gb 1 DIMM of ram - so it is easily expandable to 2 gb and leopard. It's still under applecare for another half year or so.

The only thing wrong with it is that it has a tiny scratch near the RAM door cover caused by a repair under Applecare. Its hardly visible, but if it really bothers you, I guess you could call them and have them remedy the situation. The battery works fine - still holds about 3.5-4 hours of charge... and they also replaced the keyboard with a new one.

I will probably end up ebaying it, but Im just looking to see what a reasonable price should be.

I forgot to mention that it is 15 inches not big ole 17 inches.

thanks for your PMs... Im not sure if im willing to sell it right now... i'd just like to get a feel for how much i'd get for it. I may be wrong but i'd say $1000 sounds reasonable?

What's the screen resolution? Graphics card (were there multiple options for this model?)?

As far as a price, I'd say $650 to $750 is about right.

Hey the marketplace is full of people posting "feelers" don't crap all over his thread because he's thinking of selling.

To the OP. I think $750-$800 is very reasonable if this is the rev D without the high res screen.

Well for us "interested" buyers, we come into a "Feeler" thread expecting some one to be selling something in the "marketplace"... go figure. If you're not going to sell, then this is not the place.
Ive been wanting to get one of these for my sister.

If you're going to eBay it, then do your own research over at eBay.
If you're going to offer it for sale here, then a feeler is most welcome.
Otherwise, you're using people to work for you for nothing.

Yeah, almost as if it were a community or discussion board or something. Don't threadcrap if you're not looking to buy, eh?

Wow... i've been away for a while, and I come back to this ****? No offense, but MR has really gone down the tubes with all these windows converts switching over into the cult. Sorry if I bothered some people who were interested in buying... but that's why i put the "feeler" thread in the topic. I didn't FORCE you to read this thread...

Unfortunately it's the lesser-res model - the battery has 40 cycles on it, and the screen has never been touched. It has 128 mb Vram, and runs CS3 very well. As mentioned before it is still under applecare...and ships with leopard so I'm assuming that I could put a Buy it Now upwards of $800 on ebay?

Meh, it'll fetch that easily! Last and best of PPC Apple portables!

You might consider starting it at $0 with no reserve. Sounds crazy, I know, but I've sold several Macs on eBay for more (sometimes much more) than I expected because I did that. And, in the other direction, I've sold some Macs for exactly what I started bidding at, even if it was $100 or so less than I wanted.

Just a thought.

Doesnt selling with no reserve sound risky? What if it only gets like $600?

Its likely you could even get close to $1000. Good luck on whatever you end up doing. I'm sorry so many felt necessary to comment. Its completely appropriate to check on pricing. I'm sure when its posted on ebay, you'll post the link here. Then everyone can go there and look into purchasing.

I agree that it sounds risky. It seems completely devoid of common sense. But eBay has demonstrated some curious quirks of human psychology, and this is one of them.

But don't take my word for it. Hope this works (http://computers.search-completed.ebay.com/powerbook-g4_Apple-PowerBook_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC11QQdfspZ1QQfclZ3QQfisZ2QQfromZR7QQfrppZ50QQguestZ1QQsacatZ14907) . It's a link to completed powerbook G4 auctions on eBay. Look at the prices of the ones with a lot of bids (generally meaning low or no reserve and low or zero starting price) and the ones that are Buy It Now.

I'm sure a lot of other people on here will back me up if they see this thread.

I, personally, never bid on an item with reserve, I hate not knowing if I will get to the reserve price or not, or if it's even worth it. In my experience items with no reserve sell for more. A lot of items with a reserve, don't sell

Thanks for all of the help! I am going to wait to see if new MBPs are released, then I will sell. Speaking of which... would it be better to sell before the new MBPs are released because that might make the prices drop?

Well, of course. Any new revision of the Powerbook/MBP line decreases the value of your machine. Of course, this decrease is slower on eBay than it is on these forums where everyone is up-to-the-minute aware of any releases...

Oh no... this makes me scared to sell with no reserve:

I'm not really good with estimating values of things like that. I'm not sure if it's all that far out of line, though. Is it?

(It ended on a Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening EST. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems kinda like a bad time to me. I'm aiming for Friday afternoon, hopefully when a lot of people are sitting at work trying to kill those last couple hours before the weekend. It probably would've been better to end it Monday morning, but I just don't know. I could be completely bass-ack-wards on this)

My MacBook (see sig) is at $660 and the auction's been up for less than a day and a half. Of course, that's no guarantee of selling price... but either way, at least you know I'm practicing what I'm preaching.

One thing I would advise is to invest in the colorful upgrades like having bright lines around your auction and stuff to catch people's eyes. I know it sounds irritating -- and perhaps it is -- but I know my eyes slide right over auctions. When I go to eBay I'll spend maybe five seconds on each page. Only the ones that are bright and colorful stick out to me. The reason is all the damn @#$%ing spam that's on eBay. No, goddammit, I don't want your stupid generic iPod socks and stop freaking sticking them in the iMac section. So if I see something with a lot of color, I also know it's valuable (otherwise the cost isn't justified even if the item sells).
