Yep, they have served us well, and long.
Especially long....
Birth: November 1997 (PowerMac G3 "Beige" @ 233 MHz)
RIP: October 2003 (iBook "Dual USB" @ 900 Mhz)
Almost 6 years (!)

actually a very good processor, all things considered. I still wonder if it will return, with altivec, at some point? Perhaps being called a G4? Because my understanding is that IBM could push it well past the clock speeds of Moto's G4, and include a higher FSB (200 mhz?).
Perhaps ibooks will see these high clock speed G3s with altivec when PBs go G5....

Look again, the G3 iBook is still there -- moved opposite the Legacy PowerMac.
But it is stamped with a "limited time" stamp.
The do have the big contracts to clear that they have in the pipeline.

So what is the point of a 12" PowerBook at this point? Minus a few minor details, dosen't it seem like a better deal to get a 933 Mhz 14" iBook for $1299 vs. a 12" 1 Ghz at $1599? I don't quite understand Apple's rationale for this upgrade. Besides, I had heard that the G3 was going to be available soon at up to 1.3 Ghz? I would much rather have seen that be available in the iBooks.

The G3 is still available for upgrade cards.
From my experience, it runs faster than the same speed G4 for non-AltiVec-enhanced applications.
