I've recently purchased a Quad Penryn Mac Pro, and I'm even within the return policy still. My heart has always been set on a MacBook Pro, and I really do NOT need the power of this machine. I made an impulse buy, but trust me, this is a lovely machine. I received it the 23rd of January, and it's been great. I'll just need to be more mobile as I'll be moving to Spain within the year, and a MacBook Pro would be best for me. So, in anticipation of the new MBP's, I'd like to see what people think of my proposition.

What I got:
2,8 GHz Quad Mac Pro
500GB Internal Drive
4GB (4x1, bought 2 from OWC for 129,99 and will take off 75 if you don't want them)
WiFi internal
ATI 2600 graphics
Bluetooth keyboard, wired mouse

That's the essence basically. It retails for 2479.00 plus tax (I paid something like 2600). Add on the 129 and we're over 2700.

I'd like 2550 with the 4GB ram. I'd also ship free with that. Give me some opinions guys and gals. I'm taking an obvious hit, but truly it's like receiving a brand new machine.

Alex

Edit : I will consider offers! :)

Do they have to be good ones? :)

Haha, well, I don't want to lose a TON of money. :) The machine is basically brand new. It's been so lightly used, it just sits here waiting for someone to treat it right and give it some hard work! I just mainly encode, photo edit, etc. A MacBook Pro is plenty for me, especially with how often I switch computers. :o

Yeah, the bad thing about those beauties is that the restocking fee is staggering :/

Exactly. It seemed like there were quite a few people over in the Mac Pro section that were interested in the quad. Like I said, offers are accepted. I charge no tax, and will ship free if I get a decent amount! :)

My two cents is that $150 or so savings is too little for something that expensive. It may almost be new - but it is not new - it is used.

ebay may be the way to go - I'm always amazed how some people get caught up in the bidding and actually pay MORE for a used item that a new one would have cost - go figure.

Yeah, it's pretty staggering. I remember buying an iMac G3 on there for about $80... and then selling it for $169 to some fool about four months later. If only I made a > 100% profit on everything...

Would you be interested in trading with me adding some money of course, for a 2.2GHz MBP?

It's a possibility. Depends on how much money and also what happens with with the supposed "new" MBPs with Penryn. Who knows if that will even happen though? Let me know how much cash you were thinking.

While I'd love to buy your setup, I'm looking at the 8 core, but could still be interested (I've got a MBP for sale right now, 2.4 ghz 4 Gb, 250 Gb, if it doesn't go through, we could trade?). However, you run a fairly nice deal. Is the cinema display for sale? And although doubtful, would you be able to part me out that airport card (I can't find any system in my discount range with them)?

I will consider any offer! I'd also definitely entertain a Santa Rosa MBP + cash for the MP.
