A strange, quick, and awesoem turn of events has moved a bachelor party I am attending this weekend from upstate NY to London.
SO, I'm about to order my ticket, but because this is so soon (I have two days to get ready) we have nothing planned.
I'm also the only one who has ever been to london, so we need suggestions.
We arrive at 850am on saturday, and leave monday morning (though I and possibly one other leave 6:30pm to get a cheaper fare).
The National Gallery is free on sunday right?
Other then that we want to goto a bunch of galleries (we're all animator's and artists so...), but also Where should we go for a BACHELOR PARTY?
As many suggestions as possible are encouraged, PLEASE!!! We're all frantickly trying to throw this together and also have to work and whatnot....
thank you so much!!!

Stringfellows or Spearmint Rhino, both your standard women-with-no-wardrobe-to-speak-of places.:D
Pricey though.
Be careful what you say where-ever you end up, a lot of places won't accept bookings from stag parties cos of the trouble factor.

This might come as a surprise, but we also have toothbrushes  ;)
Teasac, whilst you're over, drop me a line. Perhaps we can hook up again. Maybe a few others will turn up this time. Wintermute, iGav, Edesignuk, Caveman et all? You interested in a gathering this monday?
London geekfest part Deux......
Teabgs, try this URL: ThisIsLondon (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/entertainment/articles/4879900?source=TiL). It has a pdf guide to London (where it says "click here"), which is actually rather good. You'll find a huge supply of options for you and your mates.

I'll have a think about venues but you could try this place: http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/party_feat_uniquelondonvenues.asp
There at least two things you must try though.
The London Eye (http://www.londoneye.com/default.asp) and Tate Modern (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts/3194200.stm). Also pick up a copy of 'Time Out' when you arrive.
I'll have a think about a few more.

Anyway, Stag Nights (Bachelor Parties). The standard UK Stag do usually involves some sort of daytime activity (Paintballing or whathaveyou) followed by attempt to pour as much booze as possible into the stag - preferably until the point of passing out or being arrested whichever comes first. It is customary for some kind of embarrasment to be involved and perhaps strippers....check the venue on this one. They may not go along with it.
So it depends...are you guys party animals or do you want something a bit more refined?
For my stag do I did paintballing followed by the drinking until you bleed part. No strippers or lapdancers were involved....

Try going to www.itchylondon.co.uk - its a good guide to London.
A good part of london you might like would be Shoreditch/Hoxton area, near Old Street. Its a vibrant bit of town. with loads of neat little bars. Try the 'Bedroom Bar' or 'Jaguar Shoes' (literlly an old shoe shop with a bar plonked in), or 'Public Life (a Victorian public toilet turned into a bar, nick named 'Pubic Life'- its good though trust me!)
Also, try the famous 'Brick Lane'- a very 'artsy' place, with bars, indian restaurants and the best 24 hour Bagel shop in the world. Its a very culturally mixed area, also known as 'Bangla Village'
Avoid Leicester Square. I hate the west end, its horrible and full of gits and rip-off merchants. East London is best for going out in.

I can't do Monday as I'm not in London at the mo.... :(
The next time I can meet, will be at MacExpo.... :)
teabgs, I suggest atleast doing the London Eye, and Tate Modern.... the Photographers Gallery is also rather good.

As for a stag night, only one place to head to my friend.... Soho... you can't go wrong! ;) :D

Why in the hell you are talking about a bachelor party and you end up organizing a trip to some Gallery????? are you mentally challenge freak nerd or what????
You should be looking for a stripper at list!!!
Guy, you are a man. You are moving to another country for a bachelor party and you are talking about visiting plastic arts, you should be looking for beer, for a DJ at list, for locations.
Oh my Good, how boring would be to be there, no wonder the other guys didn't want to go.

I have to admit I find it a bit strange wanting to visit art gallerys on a "stag" weekend (that's what we call it in the UK ;)) but sheesh, lay off! They are here and they can do what they want to do, no need to lay into them

The National Gallery is free all day, every day. As is the Tate and Tate Modern.
Museums, too, are all free. Take a look at the British Museum (signed from Tottenham Court Road Tube Station) which is fantastic. It is also conveniently close to Leicester Square, Soho and all the Mac shops on Tottenham Court Road.
Also, just take a walk along the South Bank (walkway along the South Bank of the Thames) - from Westminster Bridge, along to Tower Bridge. Trully amazing views and vistas of London.
Have a great time... and remember in the UK the 'service charge' is included in the price of the meal - meaning the tip/gratuity is genuinely something you give of your own free will to reward exceptional service.

hahaha!!!
ok, one CAN do BOTH things. gallery and museum by day, drunk and strippers by night.
We plan on going to tate already (thank you all for the suggestion) and I've already been on the london eye in March...so, I don't know that it's a huge priority for me at least. Also, don't you have to have a reservation for it?
I'll check out the guides suggested, and all (I have a real guide from before still), and also plan on getting a time out ASAP.
Britboy: I sent you an email about monday, dont know if it worked or whatnot...I guess send me an IM (I don't still have your number) and I'll hopefully be able to call you...
and if anyone else is down...sweet. still gotta find out what the monday deal is, but I may be the only one left for a few hours, I should find out more today.

The Tate Modern is really good at the moment. A walk down the South Bank is always good (you might catch some sun if your lucky).
Also, buy a weekend travelcard, cost about 7 pounds, but gets you on Buses, Night Buses and Tubes as many times as you like. (www.tfl.gov.uk) The tubes are really bad at the moment though, derailments, delays and whatnot are occuring at a stupid rate, so watch out.
But for going out- Shoreditch, Hoxton and Brick Lane cant be beat- Soho's good, but is populated by alot of wankers. So is Shoreditch a guess, but a different kind of wanker.
Just avoid Leicester Square, unless you like being taken for an idiot.

Shoreditch, Hoxton would be terrible for wanting to view well oiled female flesh only inches from you face....
Ditto on Leicester Square though... ;)

But female flesh of the clothed variety are great round Shoreditch, more of a bohemian feel about the place. Has a more victorian feel about the place, Soho all porn shops, 70's buildings, and dodgy folk. Most women round Soho were men at some point.
Still, you'll have fun at either place. Apart from Leicester square. The Sound bare there, in particular, is unpleasant- £14 for 3 bottles of Becks...

My advice for a decent stag doo?
Skip London - move on to AMSTERDAM...
Or - you could do the Oktoberfest in Munich... What a ride!!!
Go on - push the boat out...

You've got a brass neck saying that judging by the colossal number of Ozzies/Kiwis who live in London! :p
I've found Amsterdam quite disappointing IMHO, been there twice. Cant put my finger on why.
The best city in Europe? Berlin. Fantastic nightlife.

I'd agree with Brick Lane any day - good mellow fun at sensible prices (for London)

There's a strip joint near Hoxton Square called Browns, I think. I say I think, I have been to it (for a mate's leaving-the-country bash) but it was a while ago. Er, I think I've said too much...
I was in the States for a bachelor party back in August. The strip joints work better there coz of the one dollar bills. Try placing a pound coin a stripper's er, suspender-type things.
Oh dear lord, I really have said too much.
Enjoy the stag weekend!

But there's more choice in Soho if you're going for a more tradition stag...
Shoreditch, Hoxton etc etc are cool places to hang... I personally like the area because it's full of fellow creatives, and I know alot of people that work there.... too many fashion mullets though but everywhere has it's downside... heheh  :p :p

Yeah - but isn't it nice to get a totally unbiased opinion?!?
;)
But when you think about it, New Zealand has nothing to offer but nice scenery and sheep (there's 4 million people, and 71 million sheep - you do the math), and Australia's full of - well - Australians (we NZer's have never really got over the "underarm incident" of 1981 - that infamous Aussie cricketing blunder that cost a country its sporting integrity...).
Don't worry - all of this is just a laugh...
