I've been given an offer from craigslist, this guy has a 17 inch MacBook Pro, 2.16 Core Duo w/ 2 gigs of ram, applecare, etc.
BUT
I get to keep 3 of the 5 hard drives (2x500's and a 300) as well as the LCD screen.
Is this a good deal?

It's a good deal for him, not for you. That MBP is worth, around here on MR anyway, only around $1500-1600, yours is worth more like $1800-1900, so I'd say he should add a little cash.
Or if you sell it outright you should be able to get enough for a 17" Core 2 Duo machine.
But a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

Ok, I asked for $300 on top and he agreed...now its more tempting....

Thats a crap deal.
That MBP is probably worth around 1200-1400 tops.
Your Mac Pro will be much faster at video production/rendering, due to being based off of the Core architecture, and having 4 cores instead of 2, plus the faster HDD and RAM.
Core Duo is based off of Yonah, which is based off the Pentium M processor.

Ok, here's an update on the deal..
This guy is willing to trade the laptop, with a 60 gig iPod, and include $300 on top.
How does that sound for a trade?
Remember I keep 3 of the 5 hard drives and my LCD.

If you don't mind going to a 32 bit processor

I used to own a MacBook Pro that was 32 bit I really never noticed a big difference between the 2 to be honest, minus the expandability options of a desktop.

Yeah, you're really going to see a BIG drop in speed. Not only are you going from a quad core to a dual core, you're also going to the previous generation dual core (32 bit, less efficient). I'm running a 2.0ghz Core Duo MBP (15") and the difference between mine and my friend's 2.16 C2Duo is tremendous. Not to mention the Core Duos only allow for 2gb RAM.

Terrible trade. I probably consider giving you close to $1.9-2k myself without the HDs and Display. The MBP is worth ~$1200 at the most. Even with the extra crap, It doesn't add up.
