I have a G3 Powerbook (lombard). It no longer is able to charge a battery. The power cable works. I have tried 2 batteries ..an old one and a brand new one. If I insert a fully charged battery, it slowly depletes, and is dead.

Any idea what I would need to change hardware wise to make the powerbook able to to charge batteries again?

thanks,
Matt

Do you have problems with sound?

The internal charger of the Powerbook my be damage. I know that if you use a PowerBook Pismo without any batery in it, the charger will continiusly sending small chargers util find a batery, if there is no batery it will burn.

Maybe that was not the scenario but I know that the sensors can be damage.

Some times the connector can wiggle loose inside your book, sometimes having a licensed technician soldering the connector can help, or replace the entire assembly, but soldering is a lot cheaper.

Do you have the external charger? If not you might find one on eBay cheap.

Thanks for the replies. Some answers. I don't have any problems with sound luckily. The internal charger might be the issue. Using an external charger is likely a good low effort and cost answer...not as ideal as the computer just doing it, but less stress than having someone try to figure out if the charger is the issue.

Thanks for the great responses.
