I'm hoping you guys can give me a good idea as to what this machine is worth. I'm most likely going to be selling it, but I haven't completely made up my mind yet (I just don't use it very often).

MacBook Pro 15"
2 GHz Core Duo
2 GB RAM
100 GB Hard drive
Currently runs Tiger

This was obviously a first generation MBP...runs perfectly, has original packaging, remote, manuals, disks, etc.

This machine does have one cosmetic flaw: a small dent to the left side of the trackpad. Hardly noticeable, but there nonetheless.

I'm clearly not sure what this machine is worth. I assume if I decide to sell I would get the best return on eBay? And if I do sell, would it be best to do so soon, before any impending MBP updates?

If it helps, I can upload some pictures of the unit, but like I said, it is in perfect condition other than the small dent.

Thanks in advance!

Try selling your machine on Craigslist first. I sold my iBook Clamshell for more then the going rate on Craigslist. Even if you get a tad less on Craigslist then eBay --- you get CASH (no mess with PayPal), a quick and easy transaction, and no fees. It's basically a no-brainer. If you can't sell on Craigslist, try here... the majority of MacRumors' members are a pleasure to deal with. What I'm trying to get at is: eBay is always a last resort for me!

i agree with mBurns, to get the most from your money, craigslist is the best way to go BUT you must take extreme caution as it is more dangerous than the alternative. I had recently sold a lower spec'd MBP like yours, 1st Gen 1.83 with 2GB of RAM for a lot more than what I thought it was worth AND IN CASH!! If you don't get any luck from there then you also have this fabulous MacRumors forum or ebay.

Just a heads up

Thanks for the advice! I have used eBay in the past for other items and would like to avoid the hassle if possible. If I decide to sell, I will consider both Craigslist and the MR marketplace.

Any ideas on what this system is worth? I've checked out similar machines on eBay, but I wanted an honest opinion from the people that know best. Any thoughts are appreciated!

A big factor on price will be whether or not it's the older CD MacBook Pro with the 256 VRAM rather then the newer with the 128 VRAM. Of course, the Pro with the 256 VRAM will be more desirable then the one with the 128. I bet you could end up with an extra $200 in your pocket for that reason alone if you advertise that difference well! I have the 2.16 CD model and absolutely love it.. no problems whatsoever. May I ask why you're selling?

It's the model with the 256 VRAM. I'm selling the machine because I simply don't have a need for it. It's been wonderful...no problems whatsoever, but for the most part it just sits here unused.

I've looked at www.mac2sell.com as someone here suggested and their quote is $1110. However, it does not ask about VRAM. Would this be an accurate price for a 256 VRAM model or a 128 VRAM model?

Thanks to all those who have chimed in!

I just sold one on here, too.. about a month ago, I think. It didn't have Applecare, but it had a 160GB 7200rpm drive in it.. sold for $1300 shipped (it was the 128MB VRAM version, btw).

If you decide to sell, please let me know. I'm interested. I'm located in PA, so we're not far from each other.
