i am a new owner of a 15" pb (with one 6pin fw port) and a new user of fcp4.

looking to buy an external hd .

my initial thought was to start simple: get a fw 400 hd and daisy chain my camera out from the hd.

BUT i have read previous posts that this method is not so good when using fcp.

so, should i get a fw hd 800/400 with 922 chipset and plan to get a pc card with extra fw ports later, when i can afford it?

or should i just go for the older fw hd 400 with 911 chipset?

any info from external fw hd users would be much appreciated!

fw800 is kind of pointless right now. The drives barely get fast enough to take advantage of the 800. The price is not yet worth it. Just get a firewire hub or something.
