Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I would have put it in the marketplace, but I'm not seling it on this forum, and its a old Mac so I thought this would be a good place to post this... Anyway, I have a 900MHz iBook G3 with 384MB of RAM, everything works apart from the HD, which is dead.
So, if i were so sell it (with charger, maunals, disks etc.) how much would be reasonble price to ask?
Thanks in advance.

What size is the screen?
If you hadn't said that the HD was dead, I'd say...four or five hundred dollars, if it was in great condition and included everything, for a 14" model. Worse condition, 350.
However, the dead HD is gonna drop the price. I'd say that maximum you could charge would be 300, with it being much more likely to get 200-250.
If it's a 12"er, then I think that would raise the price around fifty dollars in any case, just because then it would be newer.
But this is just pulled out of my ass, it depends on your local market, your buyer and how much they want it, and if you'll find anyone willing to rip it open and replace the hard drive. If you know anything about the process, you know how much of a pain it is, and therefore how many people won't want to bother.

No, it's a 12" if anything. They didn't make 10" iBooks. If so, I'd say you could fetch $225 or so on CL, maybe 25 on eBay.

You must be a time traveler from 2005. You could barely get 300 for a g3 ibook, even in the most pristine condition, signed by woz and blessed by the pope. If he fixed the HD = 180, if not = 75 shipped.

100$ i would say, the macbook has been out for a while now and you get used macbooks and Powerbooks now for 400-800. I would say an old, G3 ibook wouldnt be in high demand anymore
... I tried to sell my 800mhz G3 ibook with logic board issues, and it was maxed out, everything worked great but the video flickered, i put up a feeler, and i was lucky to get 150$ (only because i shimmed it and it was usable).
If you are thinking of selling this let me know we can work something out, i would think buying a new HDD is better then a new logic board :)

Okay, how about an opinion from a parent looking to buy an older laptop for a 12-year old?
If your iBook was working (with no HD problem), I still wouldn't give you more than $150 for it - and even then I'd be pretty leery. It's an old machine and it has very little RAM. The RAM would be the stumbling block for me. My guess is that even for the few applications my son would want to use it for, it would be very frustrating to use.
True, HD is cheaper to replace than logic board, but you'd still have to find the right buyer, with the right use for the machine, who wouldn't mind how slow it is.

Heh.
Just goes to show you how used I am to my PowerBook(see sig). I'd certainly drop a decent chunk of change on that iBook with a good hard drive; it would be an oasis compared to my seven year old baby.

Dude, how can you bear 128MB on Jaguar???
I will buy you 256MB to bring it to 384. Seriously.

This thread has given me a glimmer of hope! I even have a potential buyer!
I thought I wasent going to get more than £50 for it!
EDIT: And in case your wondering, I know it works because it still runs from a Ubuntu live disk fine. Also, before the HD died, it ran Tiger at a decent speed.

I may be interested, if the other offer doesnt work out, I'd buy it for a decent price.

Easy. Earlier, it was OS 9 and only 64 MB. The 128 and Jaguar's actually a big improvement. :D
And thanks for the offer, but don't bother - I have to give it back to the school at the end of the school year. I got it because the teacher laptops were getting upgraded and these were left over, but one of the longtime teachers is retiring, and because she's a nun, she won't have a computer or anything once she's out of the school and doesn't have a teacher laptop anymore, so we're probably going to bump it back to 9 and give it to her.
