hey man, glad to hear that everything is working out for you. Still sucks that you got ripped off... but enjoy the albook, and hope you find a buyer soon. $1050 shipped is a good price for a week old computer when you consider that apple charges tax, so $1099 is really more like $1150.

my girlfriend and I just had to make a lot of sacrifices when i lost the laptop. My girlfriend had a 800mhz powerbook and a newer G3 ibook. I had a Powerbook and a dualG5.

really not willing to go any lower than 1050.
The specs are on apples website

lindmar
Nov 1, 2003, 09:59 PM
I understand spec are on the website but is this 30 gig HD or the 40 gig?
Bluetooth or no bluetooth?
Ram?
Or just baseline standard?

I am interested in paying the 1050.... That still beats the EDU price in Canada even with the exchange rate..

OKComputer
Nov 2, 2003, 12:17 AM
it is the base ibook. Nothing changed. 256 ddr ram, 30 gig hd, 12.1 inch screen

How about 1000 Shipped?

OKComputer

1025?

lindmar
Nov 2, 2003, 09:08 AM
Here is the thing...

I am in Canada. Just outside Detroit.. Don't worry you wouldnt have to ship internationally...

Buying it new from Apple Canada = 1349 CDN plus 15% Tax= 1551.35
Driving to Detroit and Buying it from Apple Store = 1099 + 30% Exchange Rate on The Dollar = 1450.68 + 7 Percent Michigan Tax = 1552.23 =
Getting Caught at the Border not claiming it, Double Duty PLUS Canadian PST and GST = BAD NEWS

Buying from you = 1000 :-) + 30 % Exchage = 1320... But it is used, I know only a week, but you take chance buying used .....I don't know what happened over that week.... Was this baby taking care of? Did anything happen I should know of?

I would like to buy it from you but buying used scares me...

It would save me money in the long run...

lol take a look at my 15.2 inch 1ghz powerbook post. then youll know why im equally as afraid to sell it to you. I havent used it much. i installed my programs on it and then went to florida for a printers expo. I haven barely used it. I still have all the original boxes, and wrappings. If something did go wrong, which it wont, the computer still has 11 months and 25 days of Apple factory warranty

Not to mention you can buy the Apple Protection Plan and have 3 years of coverage and support.
Just be sure that it's covered by APP in Canada first.

OKComputer

I have read all your posts, very distrubing.... Anyways..
I guess my bottom line is this. It would save me 200 bucks. But it is still used.

Its like a new car, it loses value as soon as it drives off the lot.
I trust your judgment but that scares me, hence beign a student with limited financial resources.

This whole CDN sucks.
First Apple rips us off. Second, the Government.
Then my school, who can beat Apple EDU but only by dollars.
Although, the rep has joked with me that even if they beat the EDU by 25% they would still make a fortune.
I almost punched him.

Can someone tell me what a retailer gets the system for?
I guess OKComputer, I will need a few (hours) less than 24) to think about it more....

Thanks
Keep responding, I love the discussion.
So is this all you have left to sell now?
No more ALU powerbooks?

Cheers

OKComputer
Nov 2, 2003, 02:24 PM
frankly im tired of selling stuff! :-)
im now helping my friend and girfriend get rid of some of their stuff (JBLs) etc

retail on this system is 1099 regular US plus tax
EDU is 999 US plus tax

if you want ill throw in airport extreme for 1100

Im asking 1050 because I got it EDU for 1150 after taxes and shipping and I figured 100 dollars was a pretty decent depreciation for not even a full days total usage out of the machine.

Stinkysteve does have priorty since ive backseated him on a couple past systems i had for sale.

both of you take all the time you want. Right now the computer is sitting in the box packed up and ready to go with a fresh reinstall of 10.3. I would feel bad using it since it really wont be mine anymore

that's $50 on top of what you were asking for the ibook without the airport...

so if the buyer of the ibook isn't interested in the card, how about I give you $50 + shipping for that AE card? Please let me know here or by email.

thanks.

If it is just a week old, why can't you return it?

OKComputer
Nov 2, 2003, 07:05 PM
restocking fee

lindmar
Nov 2, 2003, 07:18 PM
hmm.. all good questions.

Restocking fee of 5%?
I have a feeling you could do better on your pricing of this "used" system.

Im just having fun.

OKComputer
Nov 2, 2003, 07:31 PM
actually the restocking fee is 10 percent

lindmar
Nov 2, 2003, 07:33 PM
Im going back down to my original offer of 850 and I pay shipping.

850, haha good luck on having him budge on it. if i were you i would just ebay the sucker with emphasis on avoiding tax.

Nov 2, 2003, 07:50 PM
just so were clear you expect me to take a 200 dollar loss when I just admited to you i could simply return it to the apple store for 100?

despite what you believe about "used" things I am a very trustworthy seller (ask anyone who as bought things from me) and I take only the best care of anything I own.

if you bought it for 1025 id STILL be taking a loss after i paid tax on the thing and youd STILL be getting a deal. but i guess youre set in your ways, so thanks but no thanks

okcomputer, why do you buy so many macs? why you had an ibook, sold it, bought a powerbook, sold it, now bought an ibook, used it a week, are now selling it, and will maybe be back here next week selling a 2 y old powerbook? why don't you just buy a laptop and use it? what is the deal of buying THREE (or more?) laptops in such short period of time? WHY? you are making me curious. :)
