View Full Version : G4 iMac screen messed
Take a look - a picture can explain more than 1000 words. The TVish vertical lines are just the camera, but anything going horizontally isn't :(
This machine is out of warranty.
Anyone have any suggestions?

maybe bad CRT, or PAV board.
Not something you can fix yourself, however. Be about $200+ to repair

look at the horizontals streaks...
and it's a Flat panel iMac - not a CRT

And does this still happen at a different Resolutions and/or Refresh rates?

Have you tried turning down your contrast? (Do LCDs still have such a thing?)
it happens at all resolutions and refresh rates, and in everything (OS installers, OS9, OSX)
turning the brightness/contrast down does nothing... everything just gets darker
the problem seems to be only getting worse :(
see the picture below
the background of the webpage is meant to be solid black

The first picture sure makes the screen looked curved like a CRT. I was thinking the same thing. I could see this happening on a CRT, but on an LCD, it's probably the video cable or, hate to say it, the motherboard.
plugged in an external monitor and it's fine - so it's either the connection from the video chipset to the LCD or the LCD it's self.
Problem is how would I fix this?
I can't afford to pay for a repair - i was going to sell this machine, but obviously I can't sell it in the state it's in.
Does anyone have some instructions on how to open this thing up?

an LCD is one part that i really always recommend people not try to fix. there's not a lot that you can do, except for damage it past repair... i'm afraid i can't tell you how much it will be, it depends entirely on what part is broken and where you go. i wish you luck tho--
